Rain rain and more rain. My empty lot has waves. The back yard has a creek running through it.

Culvert got clogged under the driveway. Dug at the mud n leaves on the downstream side until it shat out a 6-8ft long log of mud and explosively drained the lake on the west end of the driveway.

Get to do it about once a year and it's so satisfying when it breaks free. Then the huge volume of water clears the debris from the bottom of the ditch and culvert and it takes until the next year to fill back up with chit.

Think you'll need a couple more days to make up the deficit. Didn't check totals but we were supposed to get a couple inches today. May just water-ski to work tomorrow

I’ve only got four hour long meetings today. I might get some actual work done scheduling more meetings.

Thread a rope through it ahead of time and pull an old tire through it the next time it needs to be unplugged

Speaking of, every month there are donuts at this meeting. Today I skip breakfast because donuts. I'm sitting through O&M budget talks, looking at an empty donut table, and wondering if my grumbly tummy is as loud to everyone else in the room as it is to me

10 inches of snow down and moved. Awaiting the last forecasted two inches to land by the early afternoon.

Have to settle in a bit. Been way too busy for a mostly retired guy this week.

Afternoon, gents. Went to a local barber shop instead of the base barber... base barber is $13 + tip. This barber shop charged me $30 for a fade. OhMyGod

But it was entertaining as all get out. All the barbers were hilarious. Just messing with each other the whole time. I think one dude's blood pressure shot up. I couldn't stop laughing. Almost worth paying more than double for the cut.

Now, if only there was a surgical proceedure to inject a little gratitude in the guy.

Back in the Stone Age when I was in high school, whenever the school needed “volunteers” to help with manual labor, the Brothers would make the rounds to give out detentions. One of their favorite things to do was to take a pencil and touch / flip your hair to see if it touched your ears or shirt collar. If it touched, then you were awarded with a 1 hour detention for that Saturday AND you had to get your hair cut by the following day. Failure to do so would result in another hour. I kept my hair short to avoid spending time on a weekend to help beautify the school grounds.

My mother had her valve replaced through her groin just like angioplasty is done. She came home the same day. Drove three days later. Unbelievable.

I don't know your personal financials or tax rate, but if we presume that you are paying capital gains of 20% ($45k) from the sale of the second home, then your taxable profit on the sale would appear to be something like $225k. If you are paying less than 20% CG, then your taxable profit was even greater. Got to pay to play...

Filed my taxes this evening. Mine are rather simple. Single W-2, no major financial transactions and stuff. Since it a simple process, I did them myself.

I try to break even at the end of the year. I don't want to owe them anything and I don't want to give them a free loan (large return) with my money over the tax year.

State: get a return of about $130
Fed: get a return of about $3k (which was rather surprising as I did some shuffling around with some $ out from my a standard IRA into fed it into my Roth IRA)

I'm a poor college student in 2022 working 3/4 time at Wally World while doing full time for school. My reportable income was on the low end of the tax brackets (which was the impetus of shuffling money out of a pretax IRA into a my post tax Roth IRA so the tax hit in doing so was minimized).

Might have been able to milk another $100 or so if I wanted to spend the time itemizing things but I just wanted to get them done and over with.

I like old school barber shops. When I lived in Redondo Beach there was this really cool barber shop I used to go to that had the same vibe you described. On the walls were pictures of old boxers like Marciano, Walcott, Louis, all sorts of magazines including playboy, penthouse, hustler. The line of barber chairs faced away from the mirror wall so you faced the people waiting while getting your hair cut to be able to chat. They gave the best shave around with that scary straight razor. If you wanted to get your finger on the pulse of the neighborhood or looking for scuttlebutt just stop in for a cut and a shave. I used to love that place. Gritty but great!
