Best birthday of the year.
Immediate family last night, adding my sister and her family today along with a cousin, couple aunts and mom.
Then to bed.
Hopefully three parts Joy to every on part stress.

Just dropped the daughter off at the airport, running by my wife’s office downtown to grab a final few things she forgot, now hungry. Didn’t plan the hungry part out well. Maybe should head for Chinatown.

Doing 1 1/2" thick NY strips via sous vide then finished on the grill. We'll see how it goes.

It's gonna be good. Had a really hot sear burner on my last grill... I miss that, but now I just do cast iron pan to get the sear.

It was and still is a nice Christmas season. Spend time with the kids, relax, exchange gifts (I demanded they not buy anything but they didn't meet my demands). A nice hug is priceless, I don't need typical physical gifts. Then again they did kinda follow my demands.

A nice picture framed montage of them and me timeline thing as they grew up and a hand made ceramic sculpture of our dog, Madison, who is waiting for us at the Rainbow bridge.

I'm not too proud to say that I had to fight back the tears and excuse myself into the kitchen under the false pretense to make brunch.

I love my cast iron pans. They are my first go to to cook with. As for steaks, I sear them in a cast iron pan then transfer them oven at about 350° (pan a and all) to cook them to the desired doneness. I prefer med rare. Take them out of the oven and let them rest for about 10-15 minutes before cutting and serving.

Part of my heart & brain hurts. Not physically but at another level.

I was able to spend some time today with someone who's early life was not the best. Her mom is a single mom raising two girls and her dad was not around to help. She works part time at a grocery store and is going to college to be a psychologist/therapist for young kids. She's been through some rough times and wants to dedicate her time to help kids that have had similar issues. A very noble goal and I'm confident that she can do it.

She's an amazingly strong person (not physically but mentally and emotionally.) It puts my life in perspective. My 1st world problems pale in comparison to other people's issues. I have plenty of food, a warm house, a bed to lay my head down at night. I'm blessed for what I have. Meanwhile others have a struggle every day just to get through thee day.

I need to be more proactive to extend a hand of help were I can.

With that said, I think I'll curt up some Colby cheese and eat it with some summer sausage on some crackers for a nighttime snack. Then put the head down on my pillows and drift off to slumberland.

SF moved the ball well but no one can win with 5 picks including the last one by Darnold. Ravens did a good job of ball hawking.

May have to go back to work tonight again. Nurse that chopped her finger off hasn't sent in a return to work thing yet but as of last Monday it was sposeda be 7 days. I'm exhausted and probly gonna sleep till 6 anyway and got nothing else going on.

Maybe if I work enough overtime I can get flight and rental car for Florida trip. Still over $2k.

Went to the Houston Farmers Market. Lots of Hispanic stuff I didn’t even know. If I wasn’t moving soon I would have gone wild with googling and then buying.

The day after Christmas is pretty awesome. You get to lounge around and play with new stuff, or watch kids and grandkids play with new stuff. If you're like me you got to see both.

After being well caffeinated, fed and well...ready for a new year!

Kinda strange weather for the desert. After rain last Friday/Saturday we had two days of fog in the mornings which happens very rarely. Today started out a chilly 38 but warmed up to 62 and sunny. Mid to high 60s the rest of the week so back on track.

One if the engineers abruptly quit last week. Assignments, duties, and responsibilities have been, how should I phase it... dynamic and lately the engineering director has been difficult to work with.

The engineer coworker had enough and put in his 2 weeks. We will see where the dust settles. Lately I too have been contemplating if I made the right choice accepting this job. It hasn't turned out be be what I anticipated and targets change on monthly basis. They do knee jerk reactions rather than making a plan and working with it. Impulse reaction vs planning and proactive.

The sayings of "To busy driving to stop and get gas" or "don't have time to do it right but we have enough time to to it wrong 2 out of 3 times" seem to apply.

Time will tell.

Another day in LA. First, I hope all had a great Christmas celebration with plenty of family, friends and food around. Here in LA it is going to be partly cloudy, a high of 61 with no rain.

Dog walk on tap first thing and a little yard work to follow.

Drove 5 miles out of my way to get shrimps for $2/lb less than the closer grocery store.

Freezer broken, no shrimps. Must've happened overnight cause I could smell seafood when I walked in the door and the meat secton is at the back of the store. Much stronger smell back there.

Got shrimps for $8/lb instead. Took a picture of the wife's fridge mounted grocery list before I left and got everything on the list. Got home and she was pulling into the garage she went to the grocery store while I was out so now we got doubles.

Christmas for wife's side of family at my house Saturday

Just a nice 68 degree day to be out in the sun. Managed 2 cigars earlier while reading a book. Backed out the Corvette, checked and filled the tires and fluids, then took it out for a short cruise and stopped at Costco for gas.

MP3 came into town on Sunday afternoon.
Dog walks, family walks, 1x1 walks.
Day after Christmas wife and I both worked, while he had the house and dog to himself. A total detox day for him to unwind.
Today was the third and final family Christmas celebration.
He heads back west tomorrow morning.
It has been great.

I have like 25 hrs of sick time that is use it or lose it. I think I have a cold or flu coming on this Friday. Cough, cough, puke, puke.

I'll likely need a 4 day weekend to recover from the bug.

Spending time with family is priceless. Both the kids plus my son's girlfriend were here over for the week of Christmas. It was great and irreplaceable.

I too had to work the day after Christmas and they had the run of the house. Zero complaints on my end other then they had to leave today for other responsibilities.

Looking forward to another long relaxing weekend with them for the start of a New Year.

Since NH is only a 15 min drive away I'm complicating buying some nice fireworks (they are legal in NH but not in MA) but then again, I have to keep the neighbors in mind since they have young kids with bed times. They don't need me shooting off fireworks at midnight. Besides, I'm old and might not even be able to stay awake until midnight.

Wisconsin Sofffft.
Last three weeks have had temperatures anywhere from normal to 20 degrees above normal. Dry with a little rain here and there.

It will get to 40 (12 degrees warmer than normal), with rain and freezing rain.

I’m cold.

Think I just became an honorary Floridian.

Today will be 63/50F with rain until around noon and then I presume the temperature will start fallin
dropping as the back of the cold-front's rain is over.

Typical January weather for Orlando.Cod front with rain came through overnight. High yesterday was 70F, but we are going to have progressively colder weather over the next 5 days or so.

Just fired up the hot-tub for a morning dip and cigar.

Painters are still here today, tomorrow and Monday.

Prolly won't go out of the house today, unless I must.

Mornin Ya'll... could snow.. d'oh!

SO anyone good with MS Office? I'm running Office 2007 upgraded from Office 2000. and my dinosaur laptop PowerPoint program keeps locking up asking for updates, well the only update is MS Office 365... the Mrs. has this on her laptop, personal, and I'm to tight to spend the money for the Business upgrade.. but probably will have to, just to get this project completed... DOH!!!

My question is, if I upgrade to 365 will my saved files update as well or will I have to create them new? TIA for any inputs!!!
