I ain't seen no Iguanas in Northern Florida... too cold for 'em this time of year. Sposta have lows in the 20's for the next 5 days.

Good thing for the iguanas, though... they're not as fast as squirrels and I think Tank would eat them. Mellow

Morning, peoples. Aftermath of the blizzard doesn't appear too dire. More blowing than actual snowfall. However, wind chill supposed to be down to -30F. That chit just ain't right

Top o' the mornin' dudes... and Mrs. Sledn...

Garage cabinets get installed today. Will finally get the space organized and looking presentable. Still need to get a butcher block top for the work bench. Was told they'd charge me $1,000 for something I can have cut at Lowe's or Home Depot for $350. Sooooo... gonna do that part myself.

Morning all!

Holy cold!

-8 degrees out there with a wind chill of -34 degrees. Blizzard winds up to 60MPH. 60 degrees in the house of Sledn. To cold. Youngest's school canceled classes days ago due to the incoming storm. However, they still have to attend their 3 hour half day, virtually. So silly. Give the kids a day, err 3 hours...

Grinches...

Stay warm all.

MACS, that sounds like a cool project you are working on. Did you move out of Cali?

Holy Hell it's cold.

I prepared as best I could in the middle of my workweek. Wore my coveralls and two coats, my best gloves, skimask and hat to/from work because the car doesn't even get comfortably warm until nearly to my destination in this kind of weather. Also pulled the generator out and ran it for a bit with a load and ran a cable through the wall to the basement so I could hook up the furnace if necessary and filled up 3 5g jugs of water - my gen won't run the well.

My beater wouldn't start last night so I took wife's car which is also a gamble since the battery is the original from 2016. I also packed an overnight bag to bring to work in case we got stuck there, it's happened 3x since I've been there and the longest was 3 days 2 nights. Had my meds, earbuds, phone charger, underpants and socks, and nyquill to knock me out to sleep in whatever area they stuck us in.

Got home, car is reading -12 and accuweather says windchill -40 and I believe it. Took about 45 minutes to shovel the driveway everything had to be chipped up and then tossed with the wind instead of off to both sides. Worked up a heavy sweat that made the little exposed skin on my face very painful but overall I stayed warm. Glasses iced over pretty quickly so I couldn't see chit but I left em on for windblocking.

Get inside and strip down to my jeans and now sweat moistened tshirt and I'm fuggin cold. Furnace is running and I can see steam coming out of the exhaust on the side of the house but I check the thermostat and it's 59°. Ask wife if furnace been running all night she says yes never turned off. Went downstairs and furnace control board is flashing code for overtemp sensor open. Cuts burner gas by half. Usually from a dirty filter but I just changed it last week. Pulled the filter and threw in a new one and bypassed the sensor. House is back up to 67. Gonna order a new sensor. Third one in 12 years. I need to bite the bullet and get a new furnace.

Then I go to the garage to grab a beer to find out there is none.

Today sucks

(Tipping the hat).
Thank you, Ram.

Considering the reaction I might get from my wife if I suggested I would like to go out for a cigar this afternoon. Especially me being Mr. I'm Feeling Well Enough to Go to Work For Four Hours, Got my Feet Wet and Was Sick and Achy for the Next Day and Change.

Palama,
Note of interest.
There is now an AirB&B house in Green Bay on the same block I live on. It is a small, two or three bedroom place, so shouldn't be expensive.
The additional advantage of being only two miles from Lambeau also wouldn't hurt.

No, not gonna move to GB. Exploring a trip during the next football season to watch the Packers play the Colts. Have a good friend as well as a nephew-in-law that are Indy fans. Hopefully the game is not too late, MEBBE mid-November at the latest.

Yep... sold my house in CA July 11th and left July 12th. Arrived in Florida on the 15th, found a house in a few days, closed Escrow on August 31. Settled in Jacksonville.

Back yard is already redone with turf, garage floors done, interior painted, new furniture, wife got a RAV4, and now the garage cabinets are done.

All I need now is a smoker. And probably a boat... but that's unlikely.

Got a request for a 3rd interview for an IT job supporting the local and surrounding school districts. Looks l made it to the final round. Pretty excited about this opportunity and hope it pans out.

Still keeping more irons in the fire. Another local company wants to do a face to face interview after the holidays. Small company that bought some of Foster Grant's technology for optics, lenses and stuff. They are looking for a manufacturing engineer that can wear two hats of manufacturing and a QC guy. Not sure on this one. I think manufacturing and QC should be separate identities that work together and pseudo independent in order to keep the checks and balances. Having one person or a team that does both is kind of a conflict of interest (in my opinion).

Would get paid more with the engineering positions out there and where I have most of my professional experience but I'd like to cut my teeth in the IT stuff even if it pays less.
