The last of the Thanksgiving dinner has been purchased so I think I'm good to go unless I missed something. $hit I need to get a pie or two. I'm a fan of cherry pie. I'll have to get one of those.
Talked with my Mom (I like to check in with Mom and Dad every couple of days to see how they are doing). She makes a bunch of loaves of bread for the season to give away to folks like neighbors, friends, family, church baking events and stuff. When I say a bunch of loaves, a couple of a dozen of each. She likes cooking and baking. They are family recipes of various versions of cranberry bread, zucchini bread, banana bread... The recipes have been handed down for 3 generations.
She says 4 loaves of old fashioned seasonal breads should be here by Tues. As I type, she's probably already planning on what to make for Christmas cookies. That's another project that she loves to do. Prolly could feed a small army with the amount of cookies and stuff she cooks for Christmas snacks.
If anyone want's to stop in for Thanksgiving food at my place, the doors will be open and there will be a seat for you at the table.
This was taught to me by my elders for Thanksgiving cooking:
1) Always add an open seat at the table. Why? In case someone knocks on your door and is looking for a warm place and a full belly. Always have a seat for them and try to help them.
2) Cook more stuff than expected number of people coming over. For example even if you only have 4 people confirmed for Thanksgiving dinner, prepare for more than that - cook for 6 maybe 8 (see rule #1).
3) Gotta have leftovers. Every person eating must take home some leftovers.
