Tough call, there 8trizzle...

Maybe go along for emotional support and point out the pros/cons of each vehicle she looks at. Let her make the decision after you've pointed those things out... and then when she decides, assist in negotiations. Think

My best friend Jeff just called me.

His childhood buddy has been Jerry Seinfeld's manager or agent or something for like the last 25 years.

Every time Jeff has gone, he has had awesome tickets and gone backstage afterwards. It's in Tampa at the Hard Rock Casino.

And, I am going for free!!! Applause

8trizzle...

Depending on her age and finances, she might be better off with a lease.

Factory-set price. No haggling. Cheaper each month than buying, builds equity (at least Honda's do). I did this for my mom who is 85. Who knows if she'll even be driving in three years?

I have had like 4 new cars over the last 7 years. I have never put a single penny down on a lease. and have rolled my equity over each lease. I presently have $6,000 in equity and have moved up 2 levels to a very nice car that is just 2.5 years old.

Also, this is a great time of year to get a good deal on a 2003 model.

Others will disagree with this. YMMV.

I'm not a fan of leasing, but you make a good argument for this situation.

Yes. Leasing benefits the dealer. Always. You pay for a car you have to give back and then they sell it at a profit. If you put too many miles, you pay for that, too.

The point is to own and drive a car free and clear, right?

Now... in this situation... it may actually be a decent idea. IF the down/monthly is right.

You do have a right to an end-of-lease buyout at the end that, in the case of every Honda we have ever owned (like 15), has resulted in the value exceeding the fixed buy-out price. Equity, so to speak. Built up with zero down...

You can make sure your lease includes enough miles to suit your need inexpensively...

And, if you don't buy out a Honda at the end of the lease, they let you lease it 6-12 months longer, which decreases the buyout price dollar for dollar and gives additional flexibility at a guaranteed monthly payment rate.

But, we have been over this before and YMMV!

Damnit, I misplaced my reading glasses. I had them about an hour ago but forgot where I set them down. I have a couple backup pairs somewhere but they are eluding me.

Could go to Wallyworld and pick up another set but it's not an emergency. Maybe just place another order to Amazon,

Speaking or WallyWorld, it's the end of the summer and beginning of fall. I need a new grill, They probably have a clearance sale on them but not the best for true smokers. I prefer charcoal but a small propane grill will probably fit the bill for steaks, burgers, hot dogs, chicken and stuff (throw a smoker box in there with the desired wood chips)

I'll also need a small smoker, I miss smoking the meat.

Four dealerships, a couple of test drives, one negotiation.

We all know the world has changed, and changing so fast, we are all falling behind whether we realize it or not.

What mom can't get a grip on how the pricing landscape has changed so much in the last five years. Like wanting Chipotle meal on a single, Taco Bell burrito budget.

During the negotiations on a 2015 Ford Escape, they went through the "8 Point Inspction". 8? Even on our shpo's oil change check list there are 20 things they look at. Hmmm.

We agreed in principle to a deal, with the caveat of it passing the an inspection at my shop.

Upon arrival, our best mechanic sees the year, make, and model and says "Nope. Don't do it. Bring it back. This year make and model is nothing but problems. Coolent leaks, leading to cracked blocks. The transmisions are sketchy, the transfer cases are garbage. You are looking at $7,000 just in parts. 10k with labor and all the other bs,"

Tough spot to be in. Asked him to give it a look as mom and I went out for lunch. Wasn't 15 minutes later got the call and returned.

The coolent basin was completely dry, and he also confirmed there were no leaks. So much for the 8 Point Inspection. Told me to take the vehicle back immediately and get your downpayment back which we did and are back to Square 1.

Put in an application for a new job last night. PACU/recovery room. I more just want to ask a thousand questions than I want to try hard in an interview to take the job. I really don't want to give up my week on week off schedule. But it's just getting harder and harder the older I get. Nightshift and bedside in general. It's not something I particularly want to do but my job description/ duties are changing again in a month and it's just too much. I'll 99% sure I'll make no change eat my chit sammich and complain about the flies. But I'm looking.

I'm not willing to compromise on my less than minimum wage job with gridlife so I need a schedule that at the least I can get regular 4-5 day stretches off. I really enjoy that job and being a part of it from a conversation around a campfire to where we are today. That job gives me a sense of purpose and satisfaction that I don't think I can get in my paid job. So if I can't be sure of scheduling I'm not going to move.

Used Honda with a factory warranty to 100k miles? CRV is a GREAT car! So is the Accord if the seat isn't too low for her.

Buy a new or used Honda. You won’t go wrong.

My sister bought a 2013 Honda Civic. She loved that car. Then her physical ailments made it impossible for her to drive, so she gave the car to my daughter. Solid, trouble free gas sipper that's roomy enough for their young family of four.

Agree, not looking good tonight. I'll still root for them.

Me and both of my kids are part owners of the team. Yeah I bought 3 shares of the team for me and both of my kids. They are not worth anything other than bragging rights (no dividends, cant sell them but you can pass them down when you die to family members).

The Packers are the only publicly owned team. If they are ever sold, the proceeds go to Packer charities. Originally the proceeds were to go to a local VFW or something but they changed that and the proceeds would go to the Packer's chosen charities. Bottom line is the Pack will never be sold or moved. The NFL passed a law in the 80's (I think) that no team can be publicly owned except for the Packers. They are grandfathered in and is the only team in the NFL which is owned buy the public and not a single billionaire.

I've had the the team running in my blood for generations. I remember when I was young and if we sat in front of the TV when the Packers (and Brewers) were on, grandpa would yell at us to move aside so he could watch the game.

Packers have had highs and lows over the years during my lifetime but I still root for them.

Wonder how they got their name and the history?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Bay_Packers

Lombardi Trophy.. cough, cough... named after the great Vince Lombardi, a Packer coach .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vince_Lombardi_Trophy

Another piece of history, the Packers have 13 NFL championships. Yep, more than any NFL team in history. Brady and Belechick are only halfway there and will not get any more.

I own a couple shares myself. While the ownership may be more symbolic than anything else, I can proudly say I am an owner. How many Dallas Cowgirls fans can say that? jester

Been a Packers fan since I was 7. Read the sports headline one morning: "GB Beats NY For NFL Title". Had no idea who GB, NY or NFL were but thought the picture of Jerry Kramer kicking a FG with the G on the side of the helmet was pretty cool. Slowly learned more but five years later I would buy two books, the "Bart Starr Biography" by John Devaney and a book with the 1966 NFL stats and that cemented my love for football as well as the Packers.

Best publication on the history of the Packers:

Never read that book. I should put it on my list. Another good one is When Pride Still Mattered : A Life Of Vince Lombardi

Before they became head coaches, both Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry worked together as offense and defense coordinators for 5 years for the NY Giants in the late 50's.

I do enjoy Jethro Tull music. I used to have a bunch of their albums on vinyl but I sold them off back in the day and went to MP3 (in hindsight that was a wrong choice). I have the whole collection on MP3 and listen to them. I'm not sure Ian Anderson is in the stupid Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but if not, he should be.

They did a lot of great music and great lyrics. A good entry level of Jethro Tull is Thick As A Brick and Aquualung. Rock and Roll with a flute??? That doesn't happen much. The lyrics make you think and reflect on stuff. At least it has done for me.

Side note, HockeyDad missed a nine.
