Very unusual day here. Started out with slight rain on the morning walk with a nice breeze. Only getting up to about 85 for a high today which is about 5 degrees less than the normal morning low. I'm liking it!

Been going through the moving process and have been doing boxes and stuff that we could fit in the car and friend's SUV over this past month. Just moving about a half mile away into a different apt. Moving the big stuff like beds, dressers and tables will happen tomorrow.

Rented a Uhaul. They better have it, I reserved it a month ago. I called today and they said its ready and waiting.
Looks like the weather will cooperate so that's good.
Me, my son and a few friends will try to bang it out in one day.
Then the process of unpacking (ugh)

Prolly live out of boxes for a week or so until we get settled in and unboxed. My Son is starting college so he wanted to move in with me and we found a place we both kinda like. I'd prefer something more modern but our time schedule was constrained. Lease on the current place was do for a renewal by the end of Aug (technically yesterday) but landlord gave us a cushion to get things moved out since the new renter isn't moving in until the end of Sept.

I knew we had to find another place for a couple months but rentals here in this area are crazy. Visited many but they didn't fit my expectations. When I found one that fit my expectations it was grabbed by someone else. For some reason houses and apts get snapped up pretty quickly in this area and it's not a buyers market. I entertained the idea of buying a house I'm too old to lock into a mortgage at the current rates and stuff. I'll continue renting for now.

It will be a busy day tomorrow and through the weekend. Hopefully I don't die moving boxes and furniture.

Good luck with the move Bucky, remember if you throw it away you don't have to move it or unpack it later.

I've done some purging of stuff that I don't need. With that said, I do squirrel away stuff like computer parts when I was rebuilding computers to give away. "I might need this 320 GB SCSI hard drive someday. I might need this 128 MB RAM stick someday if I rebuild an old Dell or something."

Truth be told, that's really old stuff. Probably 10+ years old and have never needed them so I should just trash them. Funny enough while going though some of the stuff, I was talking to my Son (18 yrs old). I have laptop computers that are older than my two kids, I have cigars that are older then my two kids. Why am I not ditching the old computer stuff and smoking my older cigars? I have no clear answer to that question.

On a side note:

Last summer (2002) me and the kids flew back to WI to visit my family (Dad was not doing well, but has gotten better). One weekend while at my brothers house, he took us out shooting. My brother knows a guy that has a farm and part of his land in the farm the guy set up a gun range. It was the first time my kids shot a real gun. The first part was my brother teaching them about gun safety. Very important and very critical. After that learning lecture he explained the guns. He went first for shooting to show them the appropriate stuff. Then he let the kids shoot. We started with small caliber revolvers, then some small caliber semiautomatic pistols, then move on to some .22 rifles, and eventually some shot guns.

Back to the computer story. One of the targets he brought was some of his older hard drives that needed to be disposed of. The kids did a good job of killing them off. My daughter is the nicest person you'd meet. On that day she was the best shooter. 14 yr old, first time shooting a gun and she had more target wins than the me and my son.

Great story Bucky, great for the children and erasing hard drives with extreme prejudice is just plain fun.

How far of a drive from your new place to the boy's college? Easy drive?

God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe say, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No, " Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but
Next time you see me comin', you better run"
Abe said, "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God said, "Out on Highway 61"
Georgia Sam, he had a bloody nose
Welfare Department, wouldn't give him no clothes
He asked poor Howard, "Where can I go?"
Howard said, "There's only one place I know"
Sam said, "Tell me quick, man, I got to run"
Oh, Howard just pointed with his gun
"That way down on Highway 61"
Mack the Finger said to Louie the King
"I got forty red, white and blue shoe strings
And a thousand telephones that don't ring
Do you know where I can get rid of these things?"
Louie the King said, "Let me think for a minute, son"
And he said, "Yes, I think it can be easily done
Just take it on down to Highway 61"
Daughter on the twelfth night
Told the first father that things weren't right
"My complexion, " she says, "is much too white"
He said, "Come over here girl, step into the light"
He says, "Hmm, you're right
Let me tell your mother this has been done"
But the second mother was with the seventh son
And they were both out on Highway 61
Rovin' gambler, he was very bored
Tryin' to create a next world war
He found a promoter who nearly fell off the floor
"I never did engage in this kind of thing before
But yeah, I think it can be very easily done"
"We'll just put some bleachers out in the sun
Have it on Highway 61"

Bob Dylan

Listening to some Dylan and this one struck a cord with me tonight.

Drive is about an hour away.

Long story.. he had 4 to pick from that he applied to. He picked the college closer to where he lived with the ex wife but things changed over the summer. He decided to live with me rather than the ex (In my opinion it's a good choice and a welcomed choice into my nest). That started us looking for another apt and we moved in today. It's been a long day.

He's committed to the college he signed up for (I was rather stern that you fulfill your commitments) but he can transfer next semester to the one here in my town if he decides to.

The local college is probably half a mile away or quarter mile away... I can see their windmill towers from the front sidewalk. You could walk there in 15 min...

More Dylan pop hits.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGxjIBEZvx0

He's more than just pop hits. I respect his music and his songs.

As he got older, his voice really sucked but he wrote some great lyrics. There's a really nice documentary on him back in 2005 by Martin Scorsese... I think it's called No Direction Home.

I was not a big fan of Bob Dylan until I watched the documentary on him about a year or two ago. After that, I grew to appreciate him more.

I used to go to the blues fest and the folk music fest down in Newport RI mostly ever yea highly recended). Would go there and pitch a tent or rent a hotel room with friends. It was always a great weekend.

Kinda knew a little of the history of it. I knew that Dylan played there and turned things on its ear... he played a electric guitar! (gasp)

I'm not sure the documentary listed above is the correct one that changed me from not liking Dylan to a Dylan fan. I remember in one of the documentaries he was asked what he thought about his music and how it applied to the Vietnam war. (Paraphrasing) "My music is just music, my lyrics are lyrics based on my life. I don't write them for any political or social reasons,,, its just my music."

It may be true or may not but after watching the documentary I changed my opinion of him. (the documentary listed above is not toe one I there's a better one.. I think its on PBS web sight somewhere)

Tank had his surgery Thursday morning. Vet said to leave bandage on for 48 hours. I'm gonna take it off today, clean with peroxide, apply bacitracin, and re-wrap it for a few more days. The boy doesn't like it and keeps lickin' and chewin' at it.

Duct Tape, baby. His foot is still red and swollen, but his limp is almost gone. Poor puppy dog. Sad

Wrapped with gauze pad and bacitracin, wrapped that with the stretch tape, then wrapped that with duct tape. E-mailed vet to see if I need to take him back to restitch it. Fkn dog is pissin' me off and costing me a small fkn fortune.

Good morning 500 folks!

Just installed a cold air intake on my Tacoma. Allegedly it will improve my HP and mpg by a tiny bit, but most importantly it makes it sound fun when I press the gas pedal (which will likely make the MPG improvement bill.
