Ty Cobb, an ex-lawyer for former President Donald Trump, has issued a warning that Trump poses the "gravest threat to democracy."
During an appearance on CNN's “Erin Burnett Outfront," host Erin Burnett asked Cobb to weigh in on an argument used by the former president's legal team that suggested a president should be granted immunity even if they directed SEAL Team Six to assassinate a political opponent. Burnett questioned if people should take Trump seriously, pointing to comments he has made praising Chinese President Xi Jinping and North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un.
“I think you have to take Trump seriously because he poses the greatest threat to democracy that we’ve ever seen,” Cobb replied.
The former Trump lawyer went on to suggest that Trump's legal team is also just working to delay proceedings.
“On the other hand, I think his legal arguments are interposed solely for delay,” Cobb said, later adding the the Founding Fathers wanted to ensure “this was not going to be a country where we had a king, this was going to be a country where we had an accountable executive.”
