Implant, a bridge will put detrimental pressure on the teeth that hold the bridge.

Go au naturel. That way you can say something like “ but you should the other guy” anytime it comes up.

Implant for sure. Iffn you can afford it of course. My last one was something like $4500 years ago. A lot is dependent on the site and the bone structure with proximity to nasal cavities I am told.

Kipp, its a front tooth so an implant would likely be the best way to go.

I had the prelim work done to strengthen my jawbone to accept an implant but was too chicken to go through with the procedure. To do that prelim work, they had to sedate me as my phobia rears its ugly head every time I go near a dentist.
I just can't get the nerve to go through with them drilling into my head... so I'll live with a second bicuspid missing.

Thanks for the input my friends. This is the issue I’m worried about. Since it’s a front tooth, the dentist is concerned if there is enough bone for the implant. I’ll need to see a specialist to be sure. I’m hopeful

Had a front tooth damaged back in Jr High. (I wrested in Jr high and High school). I took an elbow to the chopps and it cracked the roots on one of my front teeth. The tooth ended up dying and going gray but didn't fall out.

They did a root canal on it to get rid of the blood vessels, nerves and stuff inside the tooth then painted it white. That lasted for a few years then it eventually had to get pulled. Then they did an implant put it and it lasted about 20+ yrs but it ended up loose as the skull bone regressed around the post.

Dentist said that they couldn't do another implant due to the bone structure. They need a good base for the post or whatever to be mounted into since the front teeth take a beating when eating things like an apple, corn on the cob and stuff. I had a partial denture just for that tooth but I took it out when eating things that require heavy bites and chomping like biting into an apple or ripping corn off a cob.

It fit well, it looked good. After getting use to it, I almost didn't even know it was there. I was 100% happy with it. Sadly, I took it out to when I was out on a bike ride and snacking on hunk of fruit. (I think it was a nectarine). I put the fake tooth thing it in my pocket. When I got home, I couldn't find it. It was in my pocket and hour ago. It can't be far... I retraced my ride but didn't find it. Best guess is it fell out of my pocket somewhere along the bike ride and home.

Called the dentist to get a new one made. I figured they would have it on file and be able to crank out a replacement. It was only like 2 yrs old. Just make me another one. As it turned out, they only keep the molds for them for about a year. So I would have to get refitted for another one. It would be the same thing as before: three dental visits.
1) X-rays and a new mold of my mouth so they could cast another one. (Wait... you already have the x-rays from last 6 month visit and molds on file)
2) Dental visit for fitting of the replacement tooth/denture thing that was made.
3) Follow up to make sure it fits correctly.

My insurance wouldn't cover a replacement if it was less than 5 yrs from the first one. My simple denture cost about $2.5k with all the x-rays and dentist visits and stuff so getting a replacement one would be 100% out of pocket.

I have not replaced it to date but it's on the list of things to do. I have new dental insurance so I'll have to revisit getting another fake tooth but some other real world life things have been higher priority lately.

Implant x 10! Best way IMO: Get your dentist to refer you to an oral surgeon and then have your dentist make, install and maintain the crown.

Implant would be my first choice if the skull bones can support it and it doesn't affect the surrounding teeth. It will cost more $ but hopefully it's a one time deal and "permanent."

In my case, the implant thingy worked well. It lasted 20+ years. When the post that was screwed and glued into my skull got weak, it eventually fell out. A second implant in the same location wouldn't work. I'm sure technology is better nowadays then it was when I was much younger and had mine done.

Shoot, just drill a new hole and weld in a titanium one. With the right movie agent you could be Jaws from the old 007 movies.

Knowing a little bit about your last few months, have you considered a new skull implant?

If only they had such a thing, I'd be first in line looking for a replacement. Since there is no such thing, I would encourage bike riders to wear a helmet. Doing so might save you from an unplanned visit to the ER and ICU and not remembering a few hours of your life.

Step one completed. Had to drive 3.5 hours to the big city of Billings to visit a periodontist. Did a bone graft. The 3.5 hour drive was a bit less relaxing….d'oh!

How far was the drive back?
