...but we are in uncharted territory. Has there ever been a candidate proclaimed to be unfit to be President by leading members of his own party, and not endorsed by many members of his own party, even AFTER he was nominated? Nominee says all kinds of conflicting, embarrassing and false stuff, won't release his tax records, refuses to divest or create a blind trust for his empire, views world events from how they impact his business (Brexit and his golf course in Scotland), admits to being a sexual pervert...openly praises and courts Putin, the leader of the nation that members of his own party says is the greatest threat to our security... tweets incessantly, showing himself to be uninformed, anti-intellectual, self-absorbed bully...
Then he unexpectedly wins the election...poof he is not unfit...we were supporting him all along...can't make this up. The GOP would be having a field day if Trump was a Democrat and asking why the Dems who denounced him pre-election are attending the inauguration and supporting him now.
Besides, the inauguration is merely pomp and window dressing, a glorified event that harkens to royalty, having nothing to do with the actual process of doing the nation's business. A cheer-leading spectacle that I don't remember anybody talking about before...
Not sure if anyone in Congress skipped Obama's inauguration, but there were plenty of reports about Cantor (a warning for Dems who plan to play his game?) and McConnell organizing meetings with key members of Congress prior to the inauguration with the specific intent to oppose anything on Obama's agenda. Plenty of nooses(neese?) found hanging in public view, posters of Obama with monkey ears and lips, posters of Obama in crosshairs, effigies hung...pretty sure that no members of Congress were responsible for those though...
Low mark: Rep. Joe Wilson yelling out "You Lie" interrupting an Obama address to Congress with a national audience watching...even some GOP were aghast...
P.S. Let's make an effort to find something we can agree about: America is great and there is no other country in which I wish to become a citizen! Agree?
First, I'm sure we agree on most things.
Second, nice 5 paragraphs of deflection.
This is NOT the same playbook. Political banter and posturing is a rule of engagement. Boycotting an inauguration is not.
The message is clear: we won't work with you, period. No discussion. No debate. Not even pretend.
This is "unpresidented" (Ha!) and you know it.
Hating the idea of Donald Trump as POTUS does not give elected officials the right to ignore President Trump.
All 2 dozen of them should be voted out immediately. They are willingly refusing to do their job. F*ck them.
