Ok, finally have a little time to devote to expressing myself politically.
First things first: I am saddened and dismayed by the fact that Trump and Hillary were the best candidates that both Republicans and Democrats could put forward. I have stated that it is my belief that had either party put forth a viable alternate candidate, that candidate would have won in a landslide. Both candidates were highly divisive and the media did nothing but fuel that fire. We as a nation bought into the BS being put out by the media and further divided ourselves.
Second: I hhhaaaaate Hillary. Always have. Her flippant attitude, foul mouth towards everyone around her, disrespect for Secret Service, and the fact that death and scandal seem to follow her constantly, make her the last person I'd ever give my vote.
Third: In light of the above, I voted for Trump over a third party candidate in a last minute decision so I could say I voted against Hillary as I was pretty sure she would win.
Hope: A friend recently stated he thought Trump won because Republicans took Trump seriously but not literally and Democrats took him literally but not seriously. My hope is that this is a true statement and that Trump's rhetoric was just that and not his true feelings, especially as regards to minority groups in this country. I hope Trump succeeds wildly for the sake of our country, not simply to bolster his image.
That said, I am a Christian, white, straight, right leaning veteran. I firmly believe that there is much work left to be done for racial equality. Further, I support the expanded rights the LBGT community has enjoyed over the last several years though I disagree with their lifestyle from a biblical perspective. I am a recovering (sober) alcoholic and have many gay friends from that community here in Austin. I have no problem with any group that is not like me, just don't ask me to make concessions to accommodate everyone else's beliefs while I stand by and watch mine being taken.
I stated in an earlier post that I was enjoying egging on the Trump haters. I had censored myself on Facebook so as not to enrage my left leaning FB friends. I am no longer enjoying upsetting anyone. I can't promise that I won't react to outrageous political posts, but I pledge to try. I've purged several FB friends over the last month. They were the ones attacking people for voting their conscience. I dumped people from both sides of the aisle. Trash politicians all you want, just don't call me racist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc. because of my vote.
Hope this helps and Merry Christmas to all!
