I'm leaving on saturday for CA and I don't want to throw my smokes in the check luggage because of how they throw that stuff around. Would I be fine with it in my carry on? I'll be throwing my cutter/punch in the check luggage, and probably just use matches or buy a cheap lighter there. I'll be gone for 2 weeks and don't want to leave home with out a few sticks for my stay in LA/San Diego/Lake Tahoe. So will the carry on inspection give me a hassle if I have a box of smokes?

It's fine to check those in your carry on stuff. They sometimes have a cow over lighters, cutters, matches, butane etc. You shouldn't have a sealed box of course. The baggage inspectors will want to look inside. I know the Horizon Casino in Tahoe has a real good little cigar shop. I think it is Tahoe Cigar Co. It's a bit pricey (typical of casinos) but its a place to get a couple in case your stash runs low.

No Problemo taking even your whole humidor with you as carry on.I myself wouldn't put my cigars any place else but inside the plane with me,without a Sherman type taveldor! The luggage compartment gets seriously cold and the humidity drops to prolly ZERO! I once flew from So Cal to Chicago,my smokes were at 70% inside a 50 count humidor in my checked luggage when I left. When I got there they were at 55% 5 hrs later. As was already stated check your torch and your cutter you won't have any problems.

Thanks guys I wanted to ask some seasoned flyers this will be my first time in a bird. I'll just throw some in my 50 count humi, that'll fit fine with my carry on bag.

My son and I went to Vegas in June. I bought a couple of those Arturo Fuente Humipaks which were the same price online as the local tobacconist. A small one for town and the large one for the room. I carried them on with no problem. The Humipak worked great. I heard stories that with the low humidity, your gars could be ruined between the hotel and the golf course. Just remember to check the cutter!

It's been my experience that in addition to the low temps and lack of humidity, the lower air pressure in the luggage compartment has a very negative effect on cigars ... after I discovered that, I always take 'em as carry-on. And just last week, I learned those humi-paks are great ... Mrs bought a couple of cigars for me when she was back East that aren't available here ... she put a humi-pak in her carry-on and they arrived in great condition ...

XJ, when you going from SoCal to Tahoe? ... passing anywhere near the Bay Area when you do so?
