Fishing was so good this month, more tarpon, lotsa snook, ladyfish, trout, and for the guy asking if this was a carp, one of my twins caught a carp that weighed as much as the tarpon. He caught it on a soft bait jig.

Awesome!!!!
This is a species that has eluded me. I've caught a few in my life in the 3-4 ft range, but nothing like this. More often, I would find myself among these fish and learn that they wanted NOTHING to do with whatever bait I presented.
I remember one time when I was in high school, we took a canoe out into the ocean and ended up in a school of tarpon. We tried EVERYTHING we had to entice these fish and they collectively told us to screw off. I'll never forget seeing hundreds of huge fish around the boat.....but nothing we could do could make them bite a hook.
I've tried since to catch these things and they've given me the same reception.
Excellent catch!!!

one of the best things about living in south florida is the fishing. they call me bobsnook but I have caught many tarpon. and everybody has a tarpon story. I have two . 1st story the family was fishing in new pass south of ft Meyers beach. my young son at the time reached down into the tackle box and pulled out a silver spoon. I told him we used em for northerns a freshwater fish. so he hooked up on 20 lb test and cast out and started to reel I told him to make a figure 8 at the boat ha ha. wham he got a nice hit he weighted about 60 lbs at the time and my other son his other brother had to hold him by the belt . seventy five pound tarpy is a pretty bi-g for a young 60 lb kid. the local tv station was filming in the pass and we watched the fight on television. pretty cool 2nd story involves a giant tarpon had to be way over 100 lbs ,about a 15 min fight in around 2to3 feet of water off the lost man river in the glayds. after the fight was broke off I was covered in mudd then the sand fleas or noseeemms whatever they are called they have teath, decended upon us. 3 guys in the boat no repellent a hugh swarm of teeth bering insects eating us, or eating them, I was covered in mudd . not a bite. tarpon are a great fish . the tarpon pictured is a beautifull fish and the kid caught it from land? any way that had to be a great fight. the boy should be proud of his catch. catchin a tarpon is no easy thing. have you ever pulled a scale from a tarpon ? it makes a nice trophy
