does this make sense to you:

Army Sends Weaponless Reserve Unit To Iraq

About 800 members of the 98th Army Reserve Division from Rochester, New York will begin a year-long mission in Iraq next month.

The unit, which normally trains reserve and active-duty soldiers in the U.S., will find itself training Iraq’s new army.

The 98th is a non-combat unit that doesn't even have its own weapons or vehicles.

"This is a hard war and we, frankly, inside the Army Reserve have been not properly prepared for it,” said Lt. Gen. James Helmly, chief of the U.S. Army Reserve.

"frankly, inside the Army Reserve have been not properly prepared for it,"

Yep sounds like someone pissed off about their mission...

you'll have that in the ranks Rick... especially from a reserve or guard unit that gets the call.. this isn't or probably wasn't their trained mission... but you know what.. they make up the Total Force concept and should be able to adjust to changes... bitching in public is not going to earn the General any browny points though... when they get to their location and fill in the ranks I'm sure they will recieve the equipment needed to fulfill the mission... now are they going off to War in their underwear?? meaning did they get proper clothing etc... because that is really all they need to have... from what I am reading and gathering on the troop movements/ replacements everything is already in place accept for Body's to fill the voids....I'll gladly step up and fill in for this General along with his Pay status ;0)

Lead, Follow or get the F**k Outadaway!!!!!

Hog...

Don't you know it is just too hard, and too unfair, to expect Reserve/N.G. components to actually "perform" on Active Duty? What were you thinking???? (WEG)

Rick, do you think the unit(s) they are replacing are going to pack up all their gear and bring it home? it Belongs to the US Army, the forward supply's needed will be supplied as stated.. Forward.. their not dropping into a hot zone they are simply filling in the void another departing unit(s) are leaving during a normal military rotation... Many units pack their own ****.. but since this unit did not have the training... meaning this isn't their specialty field then they will be picking up the departing units equipment also... as long as they have their personal gear (this is what they pack) IE: uniforms, socks, underwear, personal hygene, shaving kits, boots etc... then the other equipment will be in place for them...
seems this General has a hardon about something and wanted a place to Rant about something...

one more thing.. doesn't it sound logical to leave the forward deployed equipment in place and rotate body's rather then the extra expense of transporting everything every time there is a rotation?

Now if this Generals Soldiers are not properly trained for these missions then whos fault is that???
open mouth insert foot!!!!

nealep, I was a guard troop throughout my military career... it isn't the lower ranks who do the b!tching so much as the older "Yes Men" with the rank and plush positions...

I worked both as a Weekend Warrior as they are/were called and as Civilian Technician...

not to toot my own horn.. but being only part of the total force the guard/reserves make up...

myself personally had many hats, Career Feild was a Weapons System Tech. other duties and responsibilities
included:
1. Training the weekend counterparts on equipment, make sure they keep qualified on all their post deployment requirements, log and track this information.

2. Maintain the systems on these jets to keep them flying and performing their roll so that pilots can keep current on a day in day out business.

3. I was also the weapons ground safety monitor for our section. this was to keep current basic bulletins posted on the do's and don't in the weapons areas world wide and brief our people on these.

4. another job was building up our equipment for mobilizing, getting all our equipment loaded onto pallets. everything here is vital as with weights etc being off could upset the transport aircraft with overloads.. this job also intailed getting the equipment loaded on and off the cargo aircraft. point A being your back yard. point B being Saddam Hussains back yard... this was also important in knowing what type of contigincy we're deploying to so you knew how to set your pallets up to perform your mission in the minimal amount of time after your reach your destination.

5. Hazardous Materials handler, this was in shop and for deployments.. the go to guy if something was screwed up.. you sign the bill of sale on your pallets... anything leaks and it's your ass... hiding anything other then what the slip says is on this pallet it's your ass... OSHA and many other governing body's will bust you down to even prison time and fines for a mistake made in air transport of dangerous chemicals.

6. TODA, this also is something I had to maintain on a daily business.. keeping Tech Data current and keeping other co-workers informed of any major changes as to how we do business.

There are more area's that have slipped my mind (Thank God) that was a necessary to maintain everyday life in the guard...

on top of it all, these persons (myself) also have to keep themselves up to date for world wide duty... Training con current standards...

do I miss it.. yea in a sick perverted sort of way.. this is what I'm weaning myself from Now...

I was programed to know.. "I Can't" is not in my vocab...

where the active duty workforce has the manpower to maintain these tasks per individual job classifications... the guard/reserve have to make up with Less...

But this does not give this General the preface he took to B!tch to the public world about his unit not being prepaired for Battle!!!
