nealep, I was a guard troop throughout my military career... it isn't the lower ranks who do the b!tching so much as the older "Yes Men" with the rank and plush positions...
I worked both as a Weekend Warrior as they are/were called and as Civilian Technician...
not to toot my own horn.. but being only part of the total force the guard/reserves make up...
myself personally had many hats, Career Feild was a Weapons System Tech. other duties and responsibilities
included:
1. Training the weekend counterparts on equipment, make sure they keep qualified on all their post deployment requirements, log and track this information.
2. Maintain the systems on these jets to keep them flying and performing their roll so that pilots can keep current on a day in day out business.
3. I was also the weapons ground safety monitor for our section. this was to keep current basic bulletins posted on the do's and don't in the weapons areas world wide and brief our people on these.
4. another job was building up our equipment for mobilizing, getting all our equipment loaded onto pallets. everything here is vital as with weights etc being off could upset the transport aircraft with overloads.. this job also intailed getting the equipment loaded on and off the cargo aircraft. point A being your back yard. point B being Saddam Hussains back yard... this was also important in knowing what type of contigincy we're deploying to so you knew how to set your pallets up to perform your mission in the minimal amount of time after your reach your destination.
5. Hazardous Materials handler, this was in shop and for deployments.. the go to guy if something was screwed up.. you sign the bill of sale on your pallets... anything leaks and it's your ass... hiding anything other then what the slip says is on this pallet it's your ass... OSHA and many other governing body's will bust you down to even prison time and fines for a mistake made in air transport of dangerous chemicals.
6. TODA, this also is something I had to maintain on a daily business.. keeping Tech Data current and keeping other co-workers informed of any major changes as to how we do business.
There are more area's that have slipped my mind (Thank God) that was a necessary to maintain everyday life in the guard...
on top of it all, these persons (myself) also have to keep themselves up to date for world wide duty... Training con current standards...
do I miss it.. yea in a sick perverted sort of way.. this is what I'm weaning myself from Now...
I was programed to know.. "I Can't" is not in my vocab...
where the active duty workforce has the manpower to maintain these tasks per individual job classifications... the guard/reserve have to make up with Less...
But this does not give this General the preface he took to B!tch to the public world about his unit not being prepaired for Battle!!!
