Yeh. It's whelping season so they are very active looking to feed the babies. Often hear of them trying to grab smaller dogs even ones being walked on a leash.

Bout to head to second, and final, round of going to the dentist. Getting a second filling. :(

Has anybody heard from Frankie T? Haven't seen him post in a while, hope he's doing ok.

Afternoon... rained this morning, but was able to get the dog walk done. Went to gym and had a protein shake.

Time to work on the recliner's "butt groove". Possibly even nap...fog

Yardwork on Saturday and then washed and waxed my wife’s car yesterday (…with some help from our son…).

To paraphrase the old song:

“The old grey stallion just ain’t what he used to, ain’t what he used to be…”

I sure could use a layabout day right about now. Blink

Here I'm is!

MACS got the story from me a few days ago, before the problem got temporarily fixed.

I was changing cable boxes out at local Xfinity/Comcast shpo and mentioned that my internet has been slow forever. The guy who is like a genius looked up the account, tells me my router/modem is old...I say it's two years old!...he thinks that proves his point.

He says my current one is only 800 mbps or whatever and my service has been boosted to 1000 mbps so iff'n I swap my "old" one for the brand new(ly refurbished) one that looks exactly the same I should see much better results even with my old laptop.

Plug in the new modem, everything in the house works...except after 3 days of no problems my laptop suddenly can't connect to server. Several hours on the phone with CS, they give up, tell me it's probably my laptop.

I like the old girl, I don't do much on it but it's got a yuuuge screen and stuff, so even though I should replace it, I take it to the kid at the local shpo, who is also like a genius.

$100 later he says it goes on line no prob at the shpo, cleaned out some malware and stuff, but I need to get Comast to fix it on their end. Also says will probably work with some short money thing plugged into the side to get wifi but to try Xfinity first.

Several more hours on the phone (Filipinos are so nice) they give up, decide they will send a technician the next day. Nice guy. Spends 3 hours here. He's maybe like uh idiot, but a nice guy.

Call my friend Rick...MACS met him a few years ago... he's really an actual genius. Tries everything. Gets the plug in thingy, it doesn't work. So he said let's plug it directly into the router/modem thing with an ethernet cable...it works.

I hate the location so looks like I'll be buying a new laptop soon.

Once I figure out the answer, I'll let you know what I learned from all this.

So instead of doing the brackets the last few years, a couple kids that my kids grew up with started a version of March Madness Squares, played like Super Bowl Squares.
$200 entry.

payouts at each halftime and each final, payout increases through the rounds, ending with a 2K win for the last game winner.

High seed/low seed numbers pulled this morning, got some formula for determining high seed if two teams meet with the same ranking down the road.

I got 5 and 2

The kid who told you its slow because you're getting 800 mbs and not 1gbs or 1000 mbs clearly doesnt know what hes talking about. One person couldn't possibly use 800 mbs themselves. You only need 50-100 mbs per person in the household.

Browsing the internet uses about 10-25mbs, streaming video uses 25-100 mbs depending on video quality, playing an online game uses 50-100 mbs. So u would have to be watching 8+ TVs at once for your internet to be overloaded.

Wifi devices like routers and receivers known as wifi adapters or cards(like the one in your laptop) go bad. That's why your laptop is working when hardwired into the router/modem with an ethernet cable.

You can replace the wifi adapter or card but if the laptop is older than 4 or 5 yrs, I would just replace it anyway because internet tech moves so fast, it's close if not already to being outdated and you will probably continue to have problems using the internet.

Also, most ppl pay for internet speed they'll never need or use thinking the highest speed will make things work the fastest which isnt true. The most you should ever purchase is 100mbs per person in your household. You'll never see buffering at that speed, even during peak times. So unless u have 8-10 ppl in your household, youre probably paying too much for internet.

He's a multi-tasker. He's got all of those March Madness games to keep up with, plus has to keep up with the DOW & MarketWatch to see who buys out Joann Fabrics, then there's the Matlock marathon.

Try one of these USB WiFi dongle things.

https://tinyurl.com/bdcpkuu5

I've bought numerous of them for older computers that don't have WiFi cards them and never had an issue with dongles like these. For only $10, it's worth a try.

As MidnightToker said, if you are getting 800 Mbps, that's more than enough for most households. I too have Xfinity and I get around 300 Mbps and have not had issues. I just have the basic package since I don't need cable TV. I just use it for internet connections and streaming TVs so I don't a brazillion Mbps speeds.

I have 3 smart TV's, a few laptops, a few desktops, a few cell phones that can be online at any given time. Although they are not all online at the same time (why would an average house have a dozen machines online at the same time?) but I've not had any buffering or speed issues.

I’ve got one of those dongles on my old MAC work computer in Wyoming. It’s working great after many years

I assumed he already tried a wifi dongle, he just called it a plug-in thingy. A wifi dongle will work most of the time but not all. A dongle isn't the complete adapter so if the part of the adapter is bad the dongle doesn't include, it still won't fix the problem. The only thing that will is to replace the computers adapter or wifi card.
It's not difficult, and can be done with a YouTube video, but will require taking the computer apart. If u do just be sure to unplug all accessories (mouse, speakers, keyboard, etc) then once its opened unhook the battery pack power to it first, then discharge all static or you can ruin the hard drive or the entire computer. Don't touch anything inside until you're sure all static is discharged

Also, I should specify. When I said an online game uses 50-100 Mbps, I was referring to multi-player gaming console (Playstation and Xbox), and PC games like Call of Duty or Fortnite. Playing Angry Birds or something else on your phone will not use that much.

Had a good but exhausting day at work. There's 3 of us in training, and typically 3 teams. They don't normally put noobs in structural heart cases because they're extremely fast paced and require a lot of experience. But they didn't have a choice today.

It was nice to be in the same room doing the same procedures over and over. No switching gears and doing different things, just practice the same thing. By the end of the day I actually felt fairly comfortable for the day. 11 hours today. Tomorrow I'm on call again and late start so don't have to go in until 0930. Don't get to go home until everything's finished, rooms are restocked etc so it'll be a long day.

Yeah, my son has an Xbox and a PlayStation that he uses to play multi player online games and he doesn't seem to have issues with connections. Again, we are not heavy users. Although there are many devices connected to WiFi, there are not all running at the same time in full force eating up bandwidth.

Since Three Legs Franky is closer to Boston, he might have fiber optic Xfinity/Comcast which has the highest speeds. I'm kinda in the boonies so it's either Verizon phone line DSL (which sucks) or Xfinity/Comcast cable.

One other thing to note is the speed also depends on how many households and businesses are on the same line as your house. Once it gets to the pole or the underground connection, everyone on that "pipeline" between you and the server share the same wire. For example, I have cable. Everyone in the neighborhood that uses cable service share the same cable line once it hits the pole outside. The hospital a couple blocks away and the community college another couple blocks away are also on the same digital pipeline unless they have a dedicated line tailored to those buildings and the campus which they might {shrug}.

The way the internet and data communications work is super interesting and fascinating.

Drove a Maserati Quadtrooper of something like that. Sounded cool and went fast.
Tesla Model 3 later, with a credit card thing to start it instead of a key. Couldn’t figure how to turn it off. You just get out of the car and walk away. Odd.

A seven year old Chev Suburban was the bill of the day. Just under 9k.

When I ask the mechanic what was wrong with it he deadpanned it …. Everything.

Usually Crestor is better tolerated than other statins.

There's other options tho

Been on quite a few different cholesterol meds and had problems with almost all. Finally landed on Lipitor been years now without issue. Niaspan was probably the worst of them with some weird flush/burning feeling over my entire body at completely random times.

56F right now heading to 69F with a low tonight of 47. Clear skies, but there is a 13 mile breeze which negates my desire to swim today.

So, I spent the last 1.5 hours reviewing and disposing of old personal and business tax records going back to 2000. Emptied out a double size file drawer to make room for everything else has on my desk, in my in-box, etc.

Going to Wells Fargo bank today to find out why they haven't credited me my $525 bonus for opening a new savings account with a minimum balance. Should have received it more than a month ago, but the bank computer system indicates I am not eligible for the bonus in contrast to the paperwork they cave me when I opened the account. Third trip to branch concerning this the branch. May have to escalate it to the manager.

Alos, going to do my taxes today.

After that, nothing planned...

F'k that crap drug! It made me sick too and if you read the lirture about it may or may not have much of any effect on your health. My Doc had me start taking two 200 Mg of Red yeast rice tablets a day. It worked so well I now take just one 200 mg tablet a day. As the bad cholesterol went down, my good cholesterol went up.

Another couple hours OT today.

Need at least 4 per week to make up for the lost night shift 15% differential. So far I've exceeded that by an hour or two.

Still frustrated with a lot of it but things are starting to click. But I'm still at the very basic stage, haven't done a fraction of the things we do in the lab yet.
