Diesel HotD reintroduced, but blend apparently very different?

Anyone know the 411 on the reintroduction of Diesel Hair of the Dog? For years now, it's been quasi-discontinued, and only available in samplers, but now all of a sudden it's apparently been reintroduced and now boxes are available again.

Here are the specs for the original release, from numerous 2013 web reviews:

Quote:
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Ligero
Binder: Mexican San Andres
Filler: Nicaraguan (Esteli & Ometepe)

And here are the specs from the mothership's current Hair of the Dog product page:

Quote:
"A savory combination of bold, Honduran long-leaf tobaccos, skillfully married with refined Honduran binder. On the outside, a thick and redolent Sun Grown wrapper glistens with oils."

Notice it's totally different (Ecuadorian/Nicaraguan/Mexican changed to Honduran, etc.).

I ALMOST bought 3 boxes today (because the original really WAS so great), but they went out-of-stock before I could. Now I'm thinking perhaps I should be GLAD they did, as it gave me time to research and find the above very interesting information.

Anyone have any info about this? Thanks.

Was never impressed with diesel.

Never did get into AJ Fernandez's stuff. I tried a bunch of it, but none of them really did it for me.

Many were enjoyable, but I often ran into burn issues and other construction issues that just turned me off to them.

I don't recall having the same issues with his shpo lines as the ci exclusives, but even then, none of inspired me to get a box or 3.

The only ones I've got off cbid that I remember really liking the regular Man o war and the puro authentico OR.

I appreciate the opinions about AJ/Diesel, but I'm looking for information about the issue described in the OP.

Ya, always trying to dictate the flow of the conversation... I thought you been here a while, thought you knew how this worked.

I enjoy a lot of AJ blends, most I do find benefit from humi time and are generally on the stronger side. About 2 years ago at a herf someone told me that they had been invited to AJ's factory for a tour (showed me pictures as well which looked awesome) and were told during this tour that this was the last year AJ would be doing CI exclusives. I have seen that he is doing a lot of his own stuff now and stuff for General in the past year so it suggest that the info was true. That tells me the new HOTD is not the same much like some of the other cigars that people have been banned on here for claiming they are not the same.

Agreed. But I have a large collection so I don't mind providing humi time to them, and I love the strength.

Well, the OP above contains hard evidence that the blend is completely different, as the tobaccos are from different countries! That's not "claiming" they're not the same, that's hard documented proof.

You're whining about a cigar that goes for $60/box at CI?

Jesus Christ on a bloody Popsicle stick..

Smoke better cigars and this traumatic shit wouldn't happen to your candy ass.

Sure. Here's what I know:

2013 Blend
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Ligero
Binder: Mexican San Andres
Filler: Nicaraguan (Esteli & Ometepe)

2017 Blend
Wrapper: thick and redolent Sun Grown wrapper that glistens with oils
Binder: refined Honduran binder
Filler: A savory combination of bold, Honduran long-leaf tobaccos

2013 vs. 2017 Taste
I'm sure they both taste like chit

HTH

I get what your saying but what if CI bought an old Tat or Fuente label, would you still feel the same if the claimed it to be a Tat or Fuente for $8+ but in reality it was a bundle cigar CI was marketing at the time? No regulations allow for this to happen and consumers are unprotected against false claims.

How much were the Black Pearl OR? Same situation and I here plenty complain about the dishonesty associated with that blend.

There are better cigars in that price range

I have some old hotds with a couple years rest that I would be willing to let go for an exorbitant amount

CI has always owned the Diesel line. They created it, they can do whatever the fark they want with it. They aren't being dishonest, they disclosed the changes.

When you buy your lunch at Garbage McDrive-Though, don't come whining if they cheapen the slop for a better margin. Are you that naive or that obtuse as to not know what you are getting into?

shaun341, thanks for not being a douchebag / troll / snob. Your posts have been full of interesting information and you've been very polite. It's quite refreshing. It's common on many other cigar forums, but apparently very rare here.

I mean, I kinda love the douches / trolls / snobs because I laugh my ass off at how sad they are, but still, it's nice to see a grown-up with intelligent things to say. Thanks!

No, you laugh because we're funny... in a juvenile and sometimes delinquent sort of way. That's why you keep coming back :D

I also find you funny as well, in a similar way as you described above. I find your trolling style to be a refreshing ray of sun shine on the back of a pretentious pony... A flying one... maybe with a horn on it's head... and an equal size horn shoved up it's... (I watch too many little girl shows in the morning drinking coffee).

Anyway, I agree, shaun is a good guy.

Try a single or a fiver first.

Puddin........it's not going to be the same.........as noted....try a fiver or a single or two.
AJ out from under CI? Probably a good thing.
Used to buy various AJ stuff......Diesel UC, MoW Ruination, MOWPA, etc........all pretty good imho...........but have found better at the same, or lower prices.
My very well rested MOWPAS are smoking nicely though I must say....

Yeah, I think its the fact that you're making accusations about a blend that you haven't even tried that really makes deserve the comedic attention to yourself.

If you want to be a pretentious snob take your áss to one of those different forums full of elitist bigots that you affectionately had mentioned. This is where I blow off steam and I'm pretty sure most the guys here love this place for the same reason.

I smoked a dozen of the 7.12" x 58 Salomon and loved it. Thought it was better then the original blend.

Hey, worth a try...
Might have to try one myself.
As with any AJ, let them rest. For instance, the Skull Crusher becomes a nice mellow maduro after a year or more.

Exactly, I think folks are missing the elephant in the room. If AJ is not working with CI or that is ending then who is making the AJ CI exclusive brand cigars now?

This is one more reason to not update my cc info here. d'oh!

I enjoy MoW PAs and little devils.
