I'm just thankful that Joel didn't post the video of my hands and forearms cramping up during the last hour of fishing, causing me to weinie out of trying to catch the jackpot fish during the last two stops!

...and I didn't get shortchanged in air-time (though that woulda been fair...I caught the fewest fish). If you watch the Joel video closely near the beginning, after they dump his bag of fish on the cutting board, my hand made a cameo appearance and I had a small speaking role, as I placed the cleaning fee and a generous tip into the "tip" jar while thanking the Captain for a great trip...

Thanks to Joel for organizing this, and his wife for making the salsa that absolutely complemented fish tacos...

Great week-end with an outstanding group of brothers. I enjoyed every minute...even when I dropped a bomb in the bathroom to clear the place out so we could get Anthony to the airport on time... Ant even divulged some secrets that both Shaun and I found extremely interesting but we promised not to tell...one can learn a lot about his friends on long car rides...

Definitely gotta do Cali Fish N Herf II, possibly again later this year...

Rock fish come in a variety of species. Represented there are Vermilion rock fish, copper rock fish, salmon grouper, and the long, dark, toothy bastards are lingcod.

I think we had one other variety, but Joel would know what it was.

ALMOST FORGOT!!! HUGE (or is that YUGE?) Thank You to Joel... he brought each one of us 2 lingcod jigs that he made himself, and 2 feather jigs he made himself. All three of my lingcod were caught on the jigs he made.

Oh and btw, speedo who last night hooked me up with the "aisle" seat on my flight back, He really put me in the middle seat in row 29. I guess he overhreard Shawn's comment about American outsourcing customer support to the Philippines. When I made it to Houston I got my seat to NOLA moved to an exit row aisle seat in row 11 and it didn't cost extra.

Hope I make it to NOLA before breakfast starts acting like a turtle.

I'm still smiling from this trip... so many highlights... I've not had so good a time in a very long time... and quite possibly the best all around fishing trip I've ever been apart of...

Watching Sean (3rd spelling choice in this thread, one of us had to get it right) and Anthony put the power of The Cig Jig on full display definitely made my day... the ling cod in my video aren't even my own, one was Shæűwn's 3rd... (the one i caught was so damn big they had to cut the line before the boat tipped)...

What really strikes me about this trip is the unlikeliness of the 4 of us having ever met outside the cigar world... I'm not close to any of you in age, personality, or much anything else... we've got like 3 things in common and then a billion things that make us all incredibly different from each other, and yet before the end of that first monte, i felt like I was among friends I'd known forever...

And speaking of monte's, all I can say is I'm gonna have to drastically step up my cigar game before the next Herf... i usually stick to calling people liars or racists, but, elitists! You guys all smoke amazing cigars, and you're amazingly generous... I'm overwhelmed by the generosity of all 3 of you...

Anthony, you really brought the spirit of Louisiana with you... even when i felt like sh*t, i couldn't help but be energized when you'd set into a pair of giant reds or a big ling.... and you cut dipsh*t's jig and fed it to the ocean... i wouldn't have had the balls to do it but it needed done! Nice job...

Schaün, I gotta say it's an inspiration to be around a man of your discipline... potheads like me don't typically spend a lot of time with guys like you, and it was awesome... and i love watching someone who comes from the pressured fishing of San Diego - who's had to refine their technique and learn a million different ways to try and catch one of the 6 rock cod left down there - finally get to put those skills to use in a worthy fishery where they can just dominate...

Al, you're exactly who I thought you were... i honestly feel like we've known each other forever... you've always been exceedingly kind to me and my wife, and it was just more of the same this weekend... the fish you cooked and sent home with me - the wife ate it while i unloaded the car at 930 this morning.... she said I need to cook it like that from now on.... and the fact that you guys loved her first attempt at the salsa absolutely made her day...

Looks like I've gone and authored a danged novelette... well I could probably write a dozen more chapters and still have great things left to say about this trip and these fine gentlemen... this is a tradition i hope can carry on long into the future... thank you all for making this an absolute unforgettable herf...

Yep that was easily a $15 jig I sent to the bottom. He would have stayed on his end of the boat. No one esle kept running around snagging everybody.

By the time I made it home it was about 2:30 AM. Finally got out of bed about 9:30. Had to make room for some breakfast. Got to shower in a few as I have a meeting a bit later on.

Joel: I didn't crap in my pants on the flight from San Diego to Houston. Apparently, someone who was on the plan I had to catch in Houston crapped in the seat on the way there. I chatted with one of the United workers. He told me they had to remove a set of seats due to a HazMat situation involving a passenger. Translated: EIther someone $hit or threw up in their seat.

I'm down for the another trip fer 'sur. Next time I'll bring the Mrs. and we can make it vacation.

Glad you made it home safely Ant...you had quite an adventure with the airlines...it was like Murphy's law decided to use you as an illustration...that'll just be part of the narrative of this epic fishing trip.

We'll definitely do this again, and hopefully some of the other Cbidders who were on the fence, or couldn't make it this time, will go. Sure glad Joel organized this!

I would gladly endure it all and more to do it again. I had such a great time.
