In looking for some PG, I was informed that there are different grades. Does anyone have any information on what is the appropriate grade for cigars? I was told USP grade. Any comments would be appreciated.

go to your pharmacist and order a pint for about 10.00 or a quart if you are young and plan on living a long time. their is only one grade of pc as far as i know.

the pg is mixed elually with distilled water. it is not neseccary to mix the entire bottle, just enough to moisten your humidifier, which as you have read by now you should make yourself. as the oaisis feels dry, add a little distilled water only and only as much as the oasis will absorb.

the pg is good for about a year and then you can flush it with distilled water, and recharge it.

here is one of the interesting and more then one really cares about site. be an expert.

if you want an article about the whole humidor thing, i'll be happy to send it to you.

Good response, Rick. I bet X doesn't even look at this thread. He doesn't do PG, only NC-17 or XXX.

Lotsa luck finding PG at a pharmacy. I tried three and none of them knew what it was or could order it. But you can buy it in smoke shops or CBid.

you are probably going to chain store pharmacies. try an independent store.

I picked up a pint at CVS for $8. A gallon of Distilled wate for .99 and voila, I have a quart of PG 50/50 for $8.99, more than enough for a long time.

ok, so my post didn't really help haque's question. ok. mr haque, like some of the above post's. a locally owned pharmacy is your best bet to find the pg. a quart for under 10 dollars. i will try to work on this whole serious thing.

I just use distilled water without the PG in a good size humidor (150 capacity). I use the "oshkosh" humidifier which sits upright in the box and has little slidey things to adjust how much of the "sponge" is exposed (i prefer it tons over the silly kinds you stick to the roof of the humidor). I have a digital hygrometer in the box and watch it very closely. Using just the water has worked fine for me for years. Anything I am missing not using the PG? (although, again, my experience has been fine and I've been doing it this way since 1982 so I'd be hardpressed to change!)

The pharmacy in my local Wal-Mart ordered it for me and I picked it up the next day. Cost $6.95 for a pint.

don't change if it is working for you.

just for info, PG is a stabilizing agent for humidity. it wants to be in an enviornment of about 70% humidity and it will absorb moisture if the humidity in a closed enviornment exceeds 70% and release moisture if the humidity goes below 70%.

you are the proof that your way for you is the best.

I couldn't get it at the large chains, I went to the local small town pharmacy and there it was for $7.00 a pint.

I have yet to find PG at any pharmacy. There is a place on the Internet to buy it by the gallon. Just do a search on it, and you will find it.
