I’m a Union Man. My LC is retiring after 20 years of serving us faithfully as long as our Legislative Rep who has gotten laws passed protecting our jobs.

So I would like to get them a box of cigars. They enjoy good whiskey as well as see them smoking cheap cigars after and at meetings. I would like to show my 30 years of appreciation and just not sure what to get them.

Price / cost is not a concern. So I am looking for suggestions. I am not against spending $500 a box on there gifts. I have already gotten them both a 750 of Pappy Vam Winkle 23 year but would like to give them a box of cigars of same quality.

Please let me know your suggestions.

Congrats on their retirements. Applause

Both sound like great guys. Pretty cool you're gonna gift them some good stuff. ThumpUp

As far as the cigars go, can't go wrong with Padron in either the 1964 Anniversary or 1926 Serie lines. The Family Reserve series is also fabulous but much more pricey per cigar. Depending on the series and vitola, a box will be between $300 to $500. The Mothership has stock on all three although sizes and wrapper availability varies. Of course Google can be your friend if you have time to look around.

I was thinking something along the same lines.

I was also thinking that a nice box of Fuentes might be good. Palama or other people on here could better guide you to the right ones. Maybe some Opus X or something? It would help to know the LC´s tastes. Fuentes can be a good option because they are well made and often strike a good balance of not too strong, not too mild. Padróns are good but commit you to the fuller end of the spectrum. Make sense?

I have given Fuentes as gifts even when I didn´t smoke many of them because I knew they would be well constructed and because they appeal to a broad range of tastes.

I would go with Fuentes, as stated good balance. Padrons, unless they are a seasoned cigar smoker, will be to strong a smoke.

Obviously a box of CAO Brazlias…..

I keed I keed….

Definitely some Fuentes over Padrons, as noted above, for the same reasons.
There are some nice Fuente sampler boxes as well.

The one thing I love about the higher end Padrons is that they’re ready to smoke NOW; whereas some / many Fuentes need additional rest before they’re at their peak. But yah, I should have taken into account that Padrons are at least Med-Full in strength and body so may not fit the experience (…or lack thereof…) of the smokers.

Hopefully the OP can sift through our comments and come to his own conclusion. Herfing

I think a Padron Family reserve or anniversary series is the best gift for a seasoned smoker which you said they were. You can find boxes of 10 in certain sizes.

He said he saw them smoking cheap cigars.
That said, if they have done that long enough, a PAM shouldn’t make them spin.
IF, and ONLY IF, they have been smoking cigars for a while, a Padron maduro would be my choice over any Fuente as well.
Hate to see someone turn green and puke though….

Thanks for all the feedback. As for there tastes I haven’t seen either stick with a brand. They either get house Maduro cigars for the cigar shop across the street from the hall or some other off brand. The only time I have seen them smoke anything with a band was the Rocky Patel Hamlet Liberation and unfortunately they are discontinued.

They may keep there better cigars at home or are just happy with whatever. But I will definitely look into everything suggested appreciate that help. I will also check back and see if there are more suggestions.

If they're smoking maduros and dark cigars they're likely seasoned smokers and will be fine with a Padron.

Since there seems to be more unknown than known about the two smokers, here’s an out-of-the-box thought:

Iffin’ you settle on getting any of the Padron Family Reserve stuff, since they come in boxes of 10, get a box of the Maduros and Naturals and split them. It may seem a little odd to give open boxes but my rationale is that you don’t really know what they smoke other than unbanded house cigars and a one-off Rocky Patel so you don’t know if they have a wrapper preference. Each will get to try both wrappers (…assuming they haven’t smoked them prior,…) and can figure out which one they like better or equally. You might wanna do a little explaining when you present them with their cigars but I’mma sure they’ll understand why.

But like I said, it’s just a thought.

I ended up getting them both a Box of Padron 1964 Anniversary Imperial Maduro.

We will see if they like there gifts on Jan 10 at the next Union meeting. It’s when we get sworn in and they step down. I won my election for Vice Local Chairman. Hopefully all goes well.

ThumpUp ThumpUp

as a seasoned cigar smoker, I endorse your choice...I also anticipate an appreciative reception...

Depending on where you buy the cigars, you might have a few dollars more...if your associates like whiskey, a good single malt Scotch, like a Balvenie Caribbean 14 year or the Macallen 12 year Double Cask (both about $100/bottle) pairs well with the Padron.
