Do all cigars benefit from aging? I know the CC’s do for sure, and the heavy hitters like Opus, Padron, My Fathers, etc.
But what about the more regular stuff? The AB Magic Toast, Avo Classic, various Olivas and those kind of things? A few weeks for sure, but longer? What’s the consensus around here?

So here’s the thing, until recently CC didn’t age their cigars before release (it’s generally accepted that there an initial “sick period” then a second around 9 months). So this is partly why the “you must age CC kinda came about. I don’t know what they did pre-90’s FYI.

Non CC generally DON’T release cigars before resting enough.

Now there’s the subjective part…..aging a cigar is going to round sharpness (in a general sense) so do you want a mild cigar smoothed out or a strong cigar to lose its edge?

So I’m summary two things are they released before any “sick period” and secondly will the given taste and strength profile benefit a particular brands blend. Add to that the difference in how various sizes shapes will age. It is not an easy nor exact answer.

I smoked a diesel from 2016 last night it was pretty good to me. Would I buy them now . Hell no , my taste has moved on from them days. Plus they are not the same lucky me I have a box that has not been opened. We will see if they are actually as good. I doubt it but we will see. I have gotten pretty spoiled with having so much inventory. Need to sale half these phuggers .

I smoked a Hoyo De Monterrey Dark Sumatra today that was at least 5 years old. It was fantastic! Smooth and creamy. I don’t think they are available anymore. Anyway I’m not usually a big Hoyo fan. that’s what made me ask the question. I guess it depends on the stick like Z RX says
Thanks guys

A lot of stuff made by AJ benefits quite a bit from a long nap, or at least it used to.
But much of his line from years ago,is now contracted out I believe.
I do like to rest/age DPG cigars, especially the Le Bijou and Antiguedad, and others.

Oscuro and Penn Broadleaf wrappers benefit from a good nap as well imho.

I rarely smoke anything ROTT and usually try not to smoke anything until it has been here a couple of weeks. If I smoke something that I think may be too soon, I put the rest of them away for a while. Diesels are not smoked until at least 6 months of a nap. I have several cigars with ten years or more aging that I have been trying to get smoked before they lose any flavor they have left.

^ I do the same. I typically get fivers unless I’m at the B&M and then it’s singles I know will sit for a while. With the fives I take one and dry box dry for a few hours or a day and put the rest in the humidor aging draws (yep I have drawers designated for just letting them sit for weeks or months). Smoke the dry boxer and move on.
Probably exactly the same thing most people do. I’m not innovating anything here, lol.
