What’s your favorite Cuban clone/knockoff?

obviously with the shortage of Cubans and current prices it would be nice to find some replacements without breaking the bank..

I’d like to find something similar to the Montecristo #2 or cohiba siglo
I’ve tried the Cuban alternative from jr cigars & wasn’t too impressed as they didn’t taste the same and were overly tight and had a slight smell of ammonia.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Well Doc, that’s a tough ask.
You are a bit of a puzzle, I gotta say.
You smoke Cuban Montes and Cohibas….
Yet….
You think the “Cuban Alternative”……..from JR Cigars!!!!….. is even going to be REMOTELY close to a real Cuban???
Brother, that cigar is an absolute dog rocket, and I’ve never smoked one. I just know it is.

May I suggest you expand your horizons and simply smoke some better non Cuban offerings.
Chasing a non Cuban that will remind you of, and be similar to, a good Monte or Cohiba, is a fool’s errand.

I try a lot of higher end non Cuban, some are good but always different.. I’ve got a huge collection mostly because I tend to buy box’s. But many times I’ll buy and try and keep them in storage for friends unless it’s something I really enjoy then I order more and smoke them frequently.
Probably order more Cubans from Switzerland again. My next medical conference in Florida I’ll look into visiting Cuba and get something good for the humidor.

What are some of the “higher end” non Cubans that you like and smoke regularly?

But to be helpful to your query….

The CAO Brazilian Gol! Is pretty much a clone of a Montecristo Edmundo Dantes Conde 109.

I've found that the Punch Diablo Scamp is about as close to a Cuban as you can get.

You Should try the Alter Q by Leaf. That is the closest non-cuban cigar I have ever had.

I don’t have anything for you ‘cause, and I’mma sure you fully realize this by now (…or will at some point in time…), there is nothing that comes close to a real, properly stored and aged Cuban cigar.

It’s like when I worked for Sony in the ‘80s. Our competition would always try to convince customers that their TVs were “just as good as a Sony”. No, they weren’t. Not even close.

Either just smoke your current inventory while hoping, praying and waiting out the crazy prices on CCs or restrain your CC consumption while exploring the world of non-Cubans and enjoy the width and breadth.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do. Herfing

I've never tried to find a Cuban knockoff. Tobacco is a natural product and there are many variables involved in the growing and the taste of the leaf no matter what brand you buy (soil, fermentation, blending, and such). I enjoy Cuban tobacco but not as much as some people.

My favorite blends in cigars are mostly made with Nicaraguan tobacco. Don't get me wrong, I like Cuban blends but I would put Nicaraguan blends a step above Cubans. It doesn't make either one right or wrong. That's just me and my personal taste and opinion. Everyone's tastes and preferences are different.

Your mileage may vary.

Another must try is the CI Avana Punisher, it’s very reminiscent of Trinidad Montecarlos.
