I absolutely refuse to spend ridiculous amounts of money on Boveda stuff. As mentioned in a previous post of mine, for 20 years now I've used PG+H20+ the green floral foam. This last go round with charging the foam I think I may have gone overboard because I'm getting readings near 80% (77%) And both my hygrometers are calibrated (salt test + zip lock bag) to within 3% of each other and the elusive 70% RH.

72% is fine (really means 69-70%) 74% is fine (really means 70-71%)

77% is too high. I looked into the boveda thingys and the guy at the local shop wanted $40 for it. I laughed. Ummm, no. Not happening in this universe or any other universe. RH is RH and the RH doesn't care how much $$ I spend to get it.

Plus, the floral cubes takes up a good bit of space on the bottom of the humidor that I'd like to reclaim if possible. We're talking wooden, cedar lined humidors here. Old school. I've done the cooler thing in the past but I don't have enough disposable income to keep those filled so.... it is what it is.

Too bad Cacman isn’t active anymore. Fo’ sure he’d give his take on kitty litter.

Iirc, someone, mebbe Cacman, had a great point about people spending thousands of dollars on their cigars but then penny-pinch for their humidification. But, like they say, to each his own…. Unsure

In nogame's defense, it doesn't specify what quantity of Boveda packs the $40 charge applied to. I wouldn't buy them from my shpo. I don't care how much they protect me. Lots on here work, as does the Bezos money printing machine

I use a combination of beads I got from cbid and 60 gram 65% Boveda packs and my humidors stay perfectly at 65%. All my cigars like 65%.

Suck it up and get beads and boveda or at least beads.

How much dollar value do you have into your cigar stash?

If it’s not much than maybe the mold trap, taste altering combo of PG and floral foam is ok for you.

Buy once cry once.

I’mma 65er myself but depending on OP’s ambient humidity and temperature swings, the higher percentage may work better for him. I recall reading someone’s post about storing at 70% but he lived in a pretty dry area. Claimed his cigars smoked perfectly and didn’t have any mold issues.

Late last year the machine gun place had a 35% off coupon that I used on a 6-pack of 320 gm 65% Bovedas. Even with shipping, it came out to roughly $10.50 per pack, which, if my math is correct, is a LOT less than the $28 MSRP. Mebbe OP can hold out and wait for a great deal on Bovedas? Think

PG and floral foam?
Um……………….never mind.

There are quite a few of us who do the beads/Boveda combo.
Others use just Bovedas.
Some use just Heartfelt beads.
Some (gasp!) use certain brands of pure silica kitty litter, and even know how to “train” it to 65rh………….shocking I know.

Do your homework and figure it out.

Herfing Alright then. It would free up some space. I wasn't aware they could last that long. FWIW, I like 65% too.

You just need to learn how to recharge them…………correctly!
Takes all of 10 seconds to learn how to do it.

Buy some bovedas and then one single jar of the little blue beads you add distilled H2O to (https://www.cigarbid.com/a/humi-care-bead-gel-humidification/4687598/).

I like to keep the beads moist so the Bovedas are always pulling moisture, not pushing it. They seem to stay active (flaccid) for years that way. I just checked (I write the date I open them on bovedas), and I have been flaccid since at least 2020.
