What a pain in the azzz these last 5 weeks have been...

Looked at hundreds of cars.

Every dealer and car lot think they have gold bullion for sale...
Freaking cars with 125k to 175k and 10-14+ yrs old are all over $7,000 ...up to $12,000...

This market is so inflated it unbelievable...

Finally had my mechanic find one for me...
A 2012 FORD ESCAPE 4 cyl, WITH 140K , LITTLE over $4,000 which was way cheap for its condition.
Never owned a Ford before...
3 Toyotas ,1 Honda, MANY MANY chevys,1 Mitsubishi,
1 SAAB...

Fingers crossed...

Never buy a car after yours dies...
Do it before it does...

Words of wisdom...

If the ignition system starts acting up, I have a hack for you.
Until then, enjoy the ride.
Good find, Jonesie.

I almost bought a Toyota sequoia...2006?
With 204,000 k miles
For $3,500...from Delaware at an Auction house...
No test driving allowed
Not PA State inspected either
And it was DIRTY AS ALL GET OUT INSIDE !!
A FREAKIN PIG MAN OWNED IT ...

MY OTHER CAR BUDDY who was a mechanic and shop foreman for 17+ yrs at Sutliff Chevrolet and SATURN.SAID ALL TOYOTA TRUCKS IN THAT YR RANGE HAD SUPER BAD FRAME ROT...
most went to auction and people got burned...
THEY'D slap a bandaid bad weld fix , primer coat it then put rubber undercoating over it to hide the frame rot...
Toyota was recalling thousands of them and replacing the entire frame...some never got it done / fixed correctly...

That put me off getting it, no test drive allowed either...and gas mileage concerns $$$ 12 city 16 hwy

Butttt the f#cker started right up, hummed right along and all the gears shifted like butta' whilst standing still...!!!
Now I know why terrorists in the Middle East swear by Toyota trucks...it was solid as hell like a well built tank !!!

^The Toyota Hilux in the middle east, similar to our Tacoma... are absolute fkn tanks. BUT - they have turbo diesel engines that'll run 300k easy peasy.

The bulletproof diesel Hilux would outsell all other trucks if they were available in the US. But...the Chicken Tax makes it too expensive.

Quote:
Due to a tax policy imposed by the American government called the Chicken Tax, importing a light truck built outside the US requires a 25 percent tariff. This 25 percent jump in the cost makes the Hilux too expensive to compete with other compact pickup trucks in the US Market.

Yep.......I've looked for a diesel 4Runner or Hilux for years. We used them down in Panama.......all right hand drive for some damn reason but its an easy adjustment.Anyway the only way you can get your hands on one is if someone moving back stateside imports it and brings it up to US safety standards.Still on my radar after all these years. In the meantime I'll continue to rack the miles up on my gas powered Tacoma.

Good luck with the Ford Jonsie.............

Iā€™ve got a gas ā€œpickupā€ from Toyota. I rebuilt the 22re last year and put a new clutch and tranny in it. Very well built machine. I beat it to death.

We can agree on something. I had an '04 G35 and an '11 G37 limited edition. Both were awesome. That G37 was fast as a cat with it's tail on fire.

Ol' Shawny MAC has zero self control when it comes to the accelerator... so I have decided it is much safer for me and all other drivers on the road if I am in a big, heavy, slow-ass truck.
