Rule #1: Write down the retail price before you bid. If the bid reaches retail, stop and order retail. This is not a competition and bidding above retail only ticks off the rest of us.

Rule #2: Read Rule #1 again.

Rule 1 -- Bidding above retail keeps the lights on.

Rule 2 -- Bidding above retail amazes amd entertains.

Rule 3 -- Bidding above retail makes you glad you checked retail before placing your last bid.

Those who have get. Those that don't have don't get.

What Cbob said. Unless it's some rare lot, Cbid generally cycles the same old favorites over and over. Maybe wait for the after Christmas lows to bid; folks are going great gonzo right now however.

Betternewbie advice might be to bid low & bid often, and your ship will eventually come in. It's the BS that keeps the grass green here for the rest of us.

NO such thing as "overbidding" IMO - people pay waht they want to pay. What we need are more "underbidding" threads!

c3s, you de-emphasize underbidding, like wearing your poker face, and advertise overbidding. That way we win, management wins, and even the overbidders win (in their own world). It's a win/win/win situation.

Rule #1 --- this is an auction site, so bid whatever you are willing to pay.

Rule #2 --- stop complaining about overbidders.

#18. Bidding above retail spawns these lovely, and oh-so-rare, overbidding posts.

Overbidding is a byproduct of the ole supply and demand theory. OK, maybe a little testosterone induced competition, but there's medications for that. Those who want bad enough - new or not - and have the cake to back it up are going to do anything they can to secure there tresured prize. What do you think keeps that Gurkha HMS cigar above the $250 range? I really am more amused by all this. We all know the pros and cons - what's good for CB is not for us - type thing. To finish my rambling the Idea here cats and kittens is that there is a law of diminishing returns - meaning if a product is shown enough the customer will eventually tire of bidding on it and the price will come down.

My fine rampage is...for all bidders is find out what you like, follow the prices it is going for, put in bids that are only what you would expect to spend, the more items in any one aution post is directly related to price, and wait for your turn. I personally do this for bargains, but I don't have an endless supply of disposable income - some would argue any.

Whew, I'm beat.

There is only one rule in bidding:

You must win at all costs! Never feel guilty about running up a box of Cu*Avanas up to $120.00 just so you can say "I WON!".

Reminds me of the TVA auction that I went to a few years ago. Two toothless rednecks get to bidding on the same old, over 100k miles, white dodge truck and getting mad at the other for bidding higher. The bidding kept going up and that broken down old truck sold for over $4,000 when it probably was worth $500. As the bidding ended, I thought the loser was going to start swinging as the winner jumped up and down shouting, "I won. I won."

I thought that was the dumbest thing I had ever seen but some of you guys are starting to bring back those same images with the attitudes expressed here.

Of course this is all in jest. You guys keep bidding away, I can wait until you run out of bucks.

Some things are missing here, like don't outbid service personnel 0n APO's and don't outbid or bid up auctions where CBID bros are bidding on (unless you really don't like them). Bid up prices where resellers are bidding on large quantities.
