So is Lard, for that matter. "If you can find it". I blame Proctor & Gamble for introducing that Crisco crap 100 years that turned people off from natural lard, to the science of modified foods.
Butter has only one ingredient: cream.
Salt, which is optional, would be #2 when present.
What the heck is #3?
The blocks and tubs of lard on the shelf at the markets, at least around here, are hydrogenated and have preservatives added. Not a lot better than Crisco really. You'd have to render your own to avoid them - maybe a co-op market or real butcher shop might have natural lard, I've never looked.
