My neighbor thought he was doing me a favor. He told me the week before he was bringing some "great Dominican cigars" back from the Island. Here's what he gave me. I feigned gratefulness. Oh, they're vanilla flavored.

Though it truly is the "thought that counts" I wish it were proper to tell folks they shouldn't have wasted their money. If people insist on buying me cigars I try to be very specific about what I want. I tell them if they can't find exactly what I want they should hold off on purchasing for me. This might sound rude or snobby but I don't see the point is throwing money away...even if it's not mine. Now...if someone decides to "surprise" me, I thank them graciously and either try the cigar(who knows, you might have a pleasant experience) or cut it open like the OP did and do an experiment.

Guys at work who vacation anywhere near Florida always offer to bring back some Cuban cigars for me. I always decline, despite their reassurances that they know where to buy genuine Cubans. I look at it this way...if they are fake they will probably be dog rockets and if they are by some miracle genuine, they are illegal to have. In any event, they'd be overpriced. Not talking

Maybe I am a sucker for feeling all warm and fuzzy when people surprise me with gifts. I would generally be happy for them, but would remove the band and gift them back to the same person at a later date (assuming he/she smokes).

I actually smoked one of them and it was OK while doing yard work.

A true yard gar or maybe a tad better than a dog rocket.

I have to agree with Todd on this. I bought a few boxes of these and they were a nice cigar for the price.

I can picture it now, "Those rich Americans will buy these".
Wonder if they pissed in that filler? At least it doesn't seemed to appear they pissed in the filler since it doesn't seem to show any signs of moisture.

I had a few of those I gave to someone (who asked for them) on this board...can't remember who. The one I tried to smoke lasted about 1/2" before I tossed it.

Heck, send them all to me. They definately aren't the worst smoke I've smoked, and don't come in the lowest 10 IMHO. I kinda like the ones that I have tried. I have never tried a vanilla one though.

It is the thought that counts. I'm afraid of breaking his heart if I told him how I really feel. There is also a national pride thing going on since he is Dominican.

I smoked about 1/4 of one on the day he gave them to me; horrible like tasting vanilla car exhaust. To make it look like I smoked the whole thing, I extinguished it, used my cutter to slice 2/3 off, re-lit and smoked some more then just left it on my ashtray outside so it looked like to him I smoked the whole thing.

Thought you guys would like the sliced picture to see that it is crap short filler. They weren't dry but actually quite moist and spongy.

My fake smoked Cohibas have been gradually crowding my ashtray so he will think I smoked them all. I realize I could be digging a hole that's going to be difficult to escape if he delivers any more of these. Really nice guy and great neighbor though.

Yes I second that. I smoked a ton when I first started smoking cigars. Everything from the packaging to the roll was top notch. Those are not them.
