The most decorated ship in the history of the US Navy. 9, count 'em, 9 Presidential Unit Citations among many other decorations. For you land lubbers she's a stretch hull variation of the 637 class nuculear fast attack submarine. No one has ever even heard of her. The fact that she's gone tells you that there is something quieter, faster, that can go deeper and has more bells and whistles. Probably a variation of the Seawolf class but thats just my random speculation. Ships like this, and more importantly the men that rode them, are the reason we won the cold war without having to fight it. Uncle Bear knew when it came down to it he couldn't win.

A Decommissioning ceremony is a sad, somber event. I've never served on subs, and wouldn't want to, but I can relate to watching ones old home be sent to be turned into razor blades.
