Hello, I bought a 100 ct humidor few weeks ago. Every day I check with the hygrometer, and refill the humidifier with 50v% PG-distilled water solution. Last week I had a trip, and when I came back I found there were mold spots on the humidifier.

Pease let me know what I should do.

Thanks

Sounds like you are drowning the cigars! Quit adding water to the thing, leave it alone, first you probably have to let those cigars dry out, since I am sure they are "wet" and probably weight about twice what they should!

Did you set the humidor up before adding cigars? Once you have the water in the thing, try leaving it alone!

Good luck

Don't be afraid of the mold. Just wipe it off and check your cigars to ensure any mold is wiped off. LOOK GOOD!! You don't want to miss any. Stop the PG and use only distilled water until your humidity stabilizes. PG is good for summer, but in the Fall/Winter, humidity drops big time with the colder temps. PG solution only multiplies the PG content and does little to help raise the humidity. If you need to start over, Oasis is cheap and found at craft stores for about $2 a brick. Get the "wet" stuff.

YOu should only use 50/50 once. Distilled water thereafter. PG does not evaporate, just the water. Keep adding 50/50 and you will keep changing the ratio, which will alter the humidity target.
A full humidor that doesn't leak should not require much in the way of adding water, and virtually none when the heater isn't sucking all the moisture out of the air.I would throw that moldy credo out, get a new little one to set in there, and start over.

Oh, and analog hygrometers suck. Go get one a digital at radio shack for 20 bucks, measure the bias (you can't callibrate, just measure), and you will not be drowning your sticks.

The key is time, you must let the humidor get acclamated to the solution. Time, man, time!!!
