So, let's make it so no one can buy cold medicines or make it so that it is such a pain to buy them, people would rather have a prescription.

Amazing, simply amazing.

I think it is more of protecting the innocent from the stupid. I don't see this as being any different from the people having to give their name when buying the fertilizer same as used in the Oklahoma bombing.

Sure the people that make, distibute, and take meth are not at the top of the food chain, but they are hurting more than just themselves by iducing newbies, and ruining other peoples lives physically (and fisically by having to cleanup) from the byproducts.

I have seen people go from store to store and clear the shelves of cold medicine, it was obvious that there was criminal intent. Giving one's name is painless in compairing to the amount of tax dollars it takes because these people.

A disapointed J

Actually, they will be keeping track of what you buy and how much. You will have to present your driver's license everytime you want to purchase some cold medicines or allergy medicines.
If they deem that you are purchasing too much, then you are under investigation.

I guess we don't see things the same.

Op, I don't think you anything to worry about.

We agree it stinks though.

True John, : )
But it still bothers me that these little little infringements on privacy continue to gain speed.

Each one is innocent enough, but combine all the little incidental infringements and they start to add up.

You have to wonder, when do you stop giving up your rights?

that's why people are griping about the patriot act so much. rights aren't taken away en masse; they're taken away little by little, in "harmless" ways, until folks -- like yourself -- wake up one day and say, "hey, where did all my rights go?!" it's scary.

OTC sudafed is an ingredient in making meth. however, you need a LOT of it. joe or jane q. citizen picking up a packet of 12 should cause NO alarm. it's ridiculous to make such demands of people for buying this in small quantities. i think it would be peachy for them to make this demand of those clearing the shelf of the stuff, but buying one or two? sorry, but it takes hundreds of the pills to cook up meth.

I am suffering from a cold right now here in Wisconsin. My wife and I went to the store to purchase 1 pack of dayquill, one pack of Nyquill, and two packs of sudafed. They told my wife she could only purchase three of the items as there was a limit as to how much you could purchase. I was kind of upset but to sick to really care. So I grabbed one of the packs and went into the automated checker line (the kind where you scan your own stuff). It stopped me after I scanned it and said I had to wait for a manager to come. They did and I had to enter my birthdate and show my ID. I'm 34 for cryin out loud and I'm limmited to how much medicine I can buy for me and my family and then I have to show ID for it? What is next they are going to limit how much toilet paper I can buy?

I bought some of these items the other day and while they were behind the counter no one asked for my id and I paid up at the front registers.

Maybe this is more on a state level?

bassdude,
It is on the state level.
Each state makes its own rules on it, but they are all headed in that direction.
Some states limit the purchases to 3, others limit the purchases and make you show ID.
Then there is Oregon, who is going to "log" every cold/allergy medicine purcahse and by whom (or maybe its who).
And who is going to pay for this log keeping and extra paperwork, who joe taxpayer of course.

The govner says, you folks are going to buy into this whether you like it or not. So pay me.

Here we live in a state that is screaming about how broke they are and how they can't afford to pay their workers the money they are due, but they can add new costly programs.
