Ok. This one really had me guessing. I haven't seen anything like this before. It was a torpedo shaped, I think about 6" by 50-52 ring (again, I'm bad w/ gauges...). The wrapper was interesting. Thin, slightly redish brown, with thin, dark veins. Not quite rosado. I'm just not experienced enough to figure it out, so I decided to smoke it instead of looking at it for an hour. smelled slightly sweet. cut was easy. Draw was a little tight. Construction seemed good. I was careful to toast it with my new torch from Billy, but the lighter tore this thing up! It immediately got very jagged, but I puffed away and it evened out. 1/2 into it, the draw was tight, but had a nice taste. An inch and a half into it, it opened up, had rich gray smoke with a light gray ash with stripes of black - very flaky. The ash stayed very rough and loose - in fact I reached over to tap it off and before I could make it to the ash tray -it fell off in my beer! Anyway, 1/2 the way through it mellowed and had a smooth slightly sweet flavor and seemed to get a little more complex, but I couldn't quite put my finger on the flavors. Burn was a little inconsistent. Finished rich, but clean. Smoked to 2" and then it started getting an aftertaste. All in all I thought it was a very pleasant cigar. It didn't blow me away, but it was my favorite of the three.

Ok, Coma - how did I do???? Let the humiliation begin!!

A bad frog might have been worth it, if the other two were actually a DC and a PAM!!!

My friend I really thought you'd enjoy this one a little more. Perhaps a little more humi time would have been better, this cigar is one of my favorite cigars, I would say I put this cigar in my top ten best cigars of all time list and very close to the top.
This my frien was none other than the Montecrist No.2 Habano.

Really???!! Well, first of all - I did enjoy the cigar very much (the fact that I was watching Notre Dame lose again, didn't help...) - but, are you SURE that was a Monte #2? Because I have one in my humi - and this one didn't look anything like it. It was a veiny wrapper w/ a rusty brown color, not a creamy natural color that my "Monte #2" is. Maybe the one that I have is a fake? I actually took a pic of this one, but I don't have a digital, so I'll post it tomorrow. If it is, then I'm suprised - not what I expected, but I'm not dissappointed - it was a very good cigar and my palate is not that refined (and I've only had one cuban before - several years ago...)

Wow. I guess that just goes to show you....

Well, thanks coma! Sorry if I disappointed you, but I warned you! : (

There are no disapointmrnts my friend. Remeber cigars are as good as your pallete dictates, this is why this blind tests are an excellent idea, it's a way of smoking a cigar with out any preconceived ideas or any prejudice. I am 100% (okay maybe not 100% but darn near close) that this are not fake, I have had better Montes than this ones, but I attribute it to the age, the stamp on this smokes reads MAY 03 so I belive they are still to young to smoke, a few moths of sleep and they'll taste a lot better. I think that you nailed the flavors, for the most part, again if it was aged a little more it would have been a better smoke. And about them Irish........=( A sad, sad Saturday myfriend, my hope lies in the Wolverines, unless ND can find a quarterback..........

I have no doubt that this was the real deal. My second ISOM ever, so I don't doubt that my palate isn't refined enough to fully appreciate it...but it was a very enjoyable smoke! Thanks for the opportunity! Looking forward to doing this again, coma!

alThor and coma-one,
Thanks for sharing your reviews. Very interesting!

I have a similar blind taste test going with wer and we should be posting our notes within a week or so.
(That is if we don't mind public humiliation)
