They miss Demeco Ryan. Run defense was not good, and with that line/LB's should have been much better.

After every season teams lose players as well as coaches. It’s very common for winning teams to lose coordinators after their seasons are done but assistant coaches also move. In addition to “relieving” Steve Wilks of his Defensive Coordinator responsibilities, the following SF assistant coaches are changing teams:

Assistant HC/RB coach Anthony Lynn becomes Commanders run-game coordinator.

Pass-game coordinator Klint Kubiak becomes Saints offensive coordinator.

Assistant OL coach James Cregg becomes Raiders OL coach.

Assistant DL coach Darryl Tapp becomes Commanders D-Line coach.

Just saw a stat.

Three Super Bowl appearances by the Chiefs and not one offensive holding call!

The Chiefs resigned DC Steve Spagnola to an extension.
Happy he wasn't tempted to try the head coaching gig again.

I don’t get the vibe (…wcbw…) that he wants / needs to be a HC again. And at 64 years old, a little bit on the older side to finally get a full shot again. My thought is that he’s in a point in his life where he knows he’s best as an assistant rather than the head guy and doesn’t want to deal with the b.s. a head coach has to go through.

Not that I want to get into it but hope Bill does some TV analyst work next season. When he’s not doing the mandated press conferences during the season, he’s entertaining and very insightful

Houston Astros, New England Patriots, Jimmy Garoppolo, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, A-rod, etc., etc.

Bears cut dead weight and made cap space.

Eddie Jackson and Cody Whitehair. Both vastly went downhill after getting paid.

cap space is a joke.
Billionaires controlling labor costs with artificial "rules"...
in reality they can spend as much as they want. You'd think these Titans of Capitalism and competition would not be such socialists and actually...COMPETE!

Yeah... when they did that the Niners had Joe Montana AND Steve Young and a second string better than most team's first string. I say we go back to it.

Incidentally, it was mostly to promote parity in the league and it has worked.

The last two NFL seasons have been very bizarre. I'n 22 years of making picks I've never seen anything like it.
When once there was just draft kings and fan duel, now even ESPN has a betting site. Rig "no brainer" games that underdogs win magically and the people who put money on those underdogs make a ton of money. There were 3-4 of those games every week. The Chiefs lose to the Raiders in LV but they can go to LV for the Stuper Bowl and beat the Niners???

So under Demeco Ryan, the Niners were #1 rush defense. Went to #26. Scoring defense went from top 5 to bottom 5.

With that information... Wilks was the problem. I hope they get it solved.

Hate to keep pounding on the guy but after reading more about Wilks, he was just a bad hire. I know coaching at the highest level can be a revolving door but Wilks had more than a few one-year stints as either DC or HC (Arizona). For me, that would have been a red flag. It’s amazing that Shanahan didn’t see or sense that.

I forget who it was but on the Dan Patrick Show, a guest said Wilks wanted to change the terminology of the SF defense instead of learning their language. Truth be told, I wasn’t listening too closely but picked up on that particular comment. Leads me to believe that there was early, and perhaps constant, disagreements between Wilks and Shanahan. Last time I checked, iffin’ you’re always bickering with your boss or not doing what he’s telling you to do, one of you is gonna hafta go. Sure as h-e-l-l the HC ain’t firing himself!

On the upside, apparently Wilks is a good DB coach so fits better as a position or group coach. Someone out there is gonna give him a job.

Sure as heck hope it isn’t the Packers! Not talking
