So is Purdy a "game manager"?

I keep hearing this. He's not elite. He just distributes the ball to the skill players.

Okay. Fair enough.

Then riddle me this, Batman... why are Joe Montana and Steve Young not considered game mangaers and both in the pro football HoF?

They had much better skill position players in their day than Purdy has... and all they did was play point guard, too.

Sooooo... what the fu... dge?

System QB is lazy analysis.
Purdy stays within himself, hots the open goes, and minimizes mistakes.
Montana won 4 Super Bowls? Then he was just a great QB.

If Purdy wins three, he’ll shake the moniker.

Young was more of a dynamic, think on the fly, handling the chaos QB. He seemed to be best when the system broke down.

The only thing Purdy is really lacking in my amateur assessment, is some VELOCITY on certain throws.
That is something that may never improve, given is elbow surgery, etc.
He makes up for it in other ways.
Montana didn’t exactly have a canon for an arm either….

Arm strength = enough
Decision making = very good
Accuracy = excellent (except in the rain)
Anticipating throws = elite
Reading defense = excellent

If you think he’s a game manager I would say at least 27 teams would kill to have him.

Cam is trying to stay in the public’s awareness, he was never elite in the classic sense. He was ahead of his time for sure. I would say Cam is a less talented NFL version of LeBra nnnn.

Purdy stays within himself, hots the open goes, and minimizes mistakes. Exactly what you want from your QB.

Bill Walsh, the West Coast offense and Joe Cool were perfect for each other.

I enjoyed Joe when he was at Notre Dame and even though I’mma not a Niners fan, loved to watch him carve up teams with his poise and accuracy (…except, of course when he played against the Packers…).

All great and even really good QB's are game managers.

Call the play in the huddle and a backup play then walk to the line of scrimmage. Evaluate the defense and either stay with the play, opt out and go to backup play or call another one with words or hand signals. Managing not only the receivers but the front line protection and the running backs behind him.

After the snap, if he drops back to pass, evaluate the field in real time (seconds to make a decision). If everyone is covered then option to the other guy that might have seen the same thing he saw. The last option is to scramble with the ball, dump it off, eat it or or throw it away. Meanwhile there's about half a dozen guys that weigh a ton trying to crush you.

There is a lot going on in a matter of 30 seconds that each player needs to manage. So a QB who is a good game manager is not a strike against them. I would say that it separates them from an average QB that has great precision and a cannon for an arm.

He’s also shown he has touch.
