I did read where at least one anchor had been deployed. I’d imagine with that sort of tonnage in motion stopping isn’t going to happen in a few feet. Not sure how many people are still missing but either way that’s terrible. Also imagine the port of Baltimore is gonna be screwed up for a couple weeks. And shipping out of there on trucks is gonna be really screwed up for a long while.

So what I heard was those big container ships, this one included are single screw, one propeller. Reverse thrust makes the ship push to starboard if it has forward momentum like the Dali. They dropped port anchor to compensate but I think the bottom is pretty soft and not much for an anchor to dig into to slow a 984 foot, 95,000 ton ship. 95k ton!!! Thats a big boat!

I’ve driven a boat right next to those container ships. It’s hard to describe just how big they are. I never would have thought they’d be single screw though. That seems insane to me considering they ride around during hurricanes and such crossing oceans..

Don’t believe there is any truth to the rumor about the ships being built buy Boeing.

Seems like it depends. See below from the Internet.

Cargo vessels can be fitted with one, two, or rarely three propellers, depending on their speed and maneuvering requirements. These propellers play a crucial role in moving these massive ships through the water, and their design and size are carefully considered to ensure efficient propulsion. Let’s explore some notable examples of ship propellers:

Emma Maersk: This colossal container ship boasts the largest marine propeller ever built, weighing a whopping 131 tons. It enables the Emma Maersk to achieve a maximum speed of 27 knots3.

Hapag Lloyd Container Vessel: Equipped with a six-bladed propeller, this vessel’s propeller has a diameter of approximately 9.1 meters and weighs 101.5 tons—comparable to the height of a three-story building3.

Oasis of the Seas: As one of the largest passenger ships, the Oasis of the Seas features six-meter rotatable propellers that enhance maneuverability3.

Titanic: The iconic Titanic had three massive bronze propellers, each measuring 23 feet and 6 inches and weighing 38 tons. These propellers were powered by separate engines, generating a total power of 30,000 hp3.

Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2): This grand ship carries a pair of 22-foot diameter propellers, weighing about 43 tons each. The
specialized blades contribute to their longevity, and spare blades are kept on board at all times3.

Palmer (Antarctic Icebreaker): Palmer’s two four-meter-long propellers with four blades are made from a sturdy alloy, allowing the ship to achieve speeds even in thick ice cover3.

Elation (Carnival Cruise): Elation features an efficient Azipod propulsion system with a substantial propeller3.

Bismark (German Battleship): Launched in 1939, the Bismark had a propulsion system comprising three 4.7-meter propellers3.

The MV Dali, a Singapore-registered container ship, is propelled by a single low-speed two-stroke crosshead diesel engine coupled to a fixed-pitch propeller. This massive vessel, with an overall length of 299.92 meters (984 feet), has a beam of 48.2 meters (158 feet 2 inches) and a molded depth of 24.8 meters (81 feet 4 inches). Its summer draught is 15.03 meters (49 feet 4 inches), and it boasts a container capacity of 9,971 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU)1.

The main engine, a license-manufactured 9-cylinder MAN-B&W 9S90ME-C9.2 unit produced by Hyundai Heavy Industries, generates an impressive 41,480 kW (55,630 hp) at 82.5 rpm. With a service speed of 22 knots (41 km/h; 25 mph), the MV Dali has traveled the world, carrying goods from port to port.

Interesting stuff papa. 82.5 rpm is crazy lol. The more I’m hearing about this it does just sound like a freak accident.

So They gonna push all those cargo ships to where I wonder?? Can they go back out to sea and up to the port of Wilmington ? Is there a closer area. Can any port handle the extra load of everything that’s scheduled to land in b-more? Lotta thinking gonna happen here

Fundamentally, I still can’t comprehend that.
I’m trying to picture Ram having his Eagles beaten by the Cowjerks, then cheering for them to win the Super Bowl.

Or like China conquering the United States, and then pulling for them against England.

TV and motorized window blinds install today. They’re late.

Fan install was Tuesday. 2 of 4 are still wrong. I was able to finish off two of them. Need a more qualified installer to fix the two. Angie’s List was a mistake.

Four moves in eight years. This should be the last one.

hmm... ketchup doesn't sound good to me. I like a little shoyu and wasabi with my solo avocado. It reminds of a tofu I used to like from a place in Japan I don't remember the name of. It was like a dumpling sized tofu with a wasabi center. Soo good.

My Mom ate avocados with ketchup so that’s where I learned to eat it like that. With shoyu and wasabi sounds interesting, will give it a go next time. Never heard of, nor tried guacamole till I was in college. Back then Hawaii wasn’t exactly the place for Hispanics to come to so going to a Mexican restaurant was a rarity and sort of a big deal.

Russ, thanks. Our daughter makes some pretty good guacamole but will send her your recipe. ThumpUp

My kid time buddy that was our next, next door neighbor, used to eat avocado sandwiches and I thought it was the grossest thing I ever saw. BARF! Years later when I started to eat healthier, I tried a vegetarian sandwich with avocado and fell in love with them. But strangely enough, I’ve never made one at home, gonna hafta do that tomorrow or Friday.

We often had avocados as a kid, usually in a salid or just halved, splashed with lemon, salt and pepper. One time my Mother sent myself and my sister to our rooms from the dinner table. We got the giggles squishing avocado through our teeth, Mom wasn't having it. LOL
