81422: La Herencia Cubana Toro Nice mix of salty / savory, pepper and leather out the gate, transition throughout the middle 2+ inches was rough with acrid smoke that left my lips stinging and burning and the flavor was just blown out like burning paper. The last couple inches was a bit creamy and nutty with a pleasant light leather flavor. I’ve never smoked one of these with that rough transition in the middle. |

81425 Emilio Grimalkin maduro from darklord trade. Another unknown but I've at least seen pictures of it on retailer sites and cigar groups. Still know nothing about the brand or the cigar. So I'll wait to halfway before looking it up. Seems very hyped on social media, I see it at least daily if not more. Haven't really seen anyone talk about em, but the upvotes and high fives run deep when these show up in images.
It's a barberpole wrapper dark tan and dark brown. Continues to a multicolor nipple cap and extends to a closed foot. First light tastes like a habano with extra sweetness. Like dry hay and maple syrup. This is promising. Or they used up every bit of skill in making it pretty.
Smokes pretty slowly but I do have to draw pretty aggressively to get any real smoke out of this thing. It's gonna get hot n go sour on me. If I don't, it seems like it's on the verge of going out each time I go for another puff. Thinnest wisps of smoke if im not really pulling hard.
It continues with a profile very similar to the Caldwell Blind Man's Bluff I had yesterday. Very very similar. Leather is the predominant note, some burning in my sinuses on retro but I wouldn't call it any type of spice, but more like the unpleasant fumes from a tire fire. The leather isn't straight boot leather, there's a sweet caramel note to it. Like going to the boot store with your grandpa and he gives you a partly melted Worther's Original that's been in his pocket since 1987.
Looked it up. Halfwheel seems to agree with me, they gave it a 79. How this chit is a $10+ cigar and is super hyped on cigar social media is beyond me. I see pictures of it in my feeds every day. I was honestly looking forward to this one for a while. I thought I'd grind through that Oliva O and treat myself with the Grimalkin tonight. It's better than the O, but I bought a second one of these based off hype. Thankfully just a single. |

Awful cigar. Construction and burn were perfect. Smoked half of it. Notes of burning cardboard, very dry. Nothing in there I liked. Still one of my least favorite cigars. At least its consistent Agreed, the only cigar I have tried a few times and never made it half way once. Not sure why, but clearly unsmokable. |

The last "O" I smoked was a turd, although not Churchill. I actually unrolled it, about half anyway, to see WTF was inside. I forgot because the couple previous to that weren't like that. I'm feeling a little bad 'cause I sent one to Houzza in the nOOb Pib without remembering that last one I smoked. At least he got a few others to make up for it Now maybe we can get Houzza to ash that thing and get another opinion |

81438 Crowned Heads Sfumato in C Major. Bought a single in a CH sale, only 2 weeks humidor time but wanted to try it soon Tiver gave me a heads up on cheap boxes of these. Trying not to blind buy more boxes right now. It seems like something I'd enjoy which is why I bought the single.
First light toasty nutty typical light flavors. By first ash drop some pepper has come in retro, some buttery creaminess in the texture, good bit of cedar and cinnamon playing. Like a piece of buttered toast with cinnamon sugar. Wrapper is matte at the foot and semi gloss by the head which is a strange thing. But it's nicely made.
The first inch and from appearances I assumed it would be a very light smoke. It is not. May be its youth bringing the punches, may be the contrast from expectations to experience, may just be a lot stronger than the description reads.
2nd ash drop and this things giving Pete Johnson a run for his money on the pepper n cream. Did not expect this.
Hit the halfway point and I hit the checkout button on the box of these. If it's like this 2 weeks in, I anticipate they will age well. And at $4.50 by the box vs the $7 I paid for the single, it's a hard bargain to pass up. Threw in a couple fivers of the United Abuelo they were $9per by the pack or by the box. Thank you Tiver for the heads up on these. |

81441: Tatuaje Brown Label robusto. Last of a box from 2015. Light pepper on the cold draw. First third has that light pepper mixed with a creamy mocha. The years have clearly melded together those signature notes. Perfect burn, white ash...immaculate. Paired with some Johnnie Walker 18. Second third: the interplay between the pepper and the creamy mocha is divine. Not generally a fan of nc habano wrapped cigars, but this is pure joy. Final third, the pepper comes more to the front, but there is still that creamy mocha and now some leather on my palate. Probably won't buy these again, hard to find and expensive, but will have to find some singles of either Havana VI or L'Atelier 59 (or your recommendations) for my next Johnson fix. Can't believe I now have no Tats in the humi... |

81441 Espinosa Sarsasparilla beli from darklord trade. I've had a couple Espinosa cigars in the past and they didn't wow me so I don't have high hopes but well see.
First light is leathery with some grittiness behind it. Little sweet spice nothing discernable. Burn is uneven in the first inch with an 1/8" void tunnel on the faster burn part. Gonna see if that seals up or corrections won't do chit.
Touched it up and dropped the ash once the burn line evened out. Dunno if it's the name or if it's really there but there's a Sarsasparilla flavor like those root beer barrel candies. Maybe some anise too. It's a weird profile. Gonna grab a root beer to pair for the rest of this. Dunno if if pick that up if it were unbanded/ blind.
Halfway I looked it up. MSA wrapper nic fill. Does have the filthy gritty dirt from the MSA but balanced with a pretty sweet filler blend. No pepper bite, it's a very smooth leathery smoke. There's a lingering salty/metallic quality in there but not overpowering or unwelcome.
I dont know if I'd buy one at $10, but it's interesting enough I wouldn't mind having another. Reminds me of my thoughts on the other Espinosa cigars I've had. Unique for the sake of being unique but not something I want in a regular rotation. Can't say I've ever opened the humidor and thought I wanted a cigar with notes of anise. I'd call this one good. |

81450 Warped Chinchalle. Same story as the Sfumato. Warped is 2 weeks but found a deal on a box gotta see if it's worth it. Bought this single before I buy a fiver or more and learn it ain't for me.
First light very dry woody flavors. The kind I don't care for. Peanut shells everywhere. Little sting on retrohale, more of a wood smoke sting than a spice sting. Gonna keep going but it's a no on the box buy if this is the lane we're going down.
I want to say I don't like habano but I just don't like this type of habano. Very woody, and I could do a woody nutty profile if backed up by a sweet cream texture. I do not enjoy astringency in a cigar at all. It's an automatic fail for me. Do not pass go.
Very glad I bought the single to evaluate. It's an excellent cigar. But in a profile I don't enjoy. Like appreciating the skill of a musical artist I don't enjoy listening to. I dont like Prince, but that boy was a musical genius. |

I’ve said this before but I really feel the MSA of 10-ish years ago is different than today. To me, the “old” MSA wasn’t as overpowering and dirt-like. But it wasn’t nearly as popular back then as it is now so I’ve wondered if growing or drying techniques have changed to accommodate the demand. What root beer didja drink? A&W? Hires? Mug? Other? |
