Managed to find a bottle of Elijah Craig Single Barrel 18 on Friday. Probably more expen$ive here in Hawaii than elsewhere but knew if I didn't get it then, who knows when I'd have another chance? Cracked it open after lunch today and had a sample pour. Can't wait for dinner and a full shot.

According to a few reviews it is a better bottle than the 23yo. Some seem to think the additional five years were just to much time in the barrel.

Knowing me, I would still get the 23 if the opportunity presented itself (...but that's a BIG IF...).

No, didn't know where to list it. A rather unique Eau de Vie. A fruit brandy made from Pinot Noir and Chardonay grapes from a Premiur Cru vinyard in Beaune France. Very fine Burgundy is made there also, so there certainly is a wine connection.

I thought i posted this yesterday but dont see it...

After having the 12, 14, and 15 which is your favorite expression from the best distillery in dufftown?

The 15 was the first scotch I really liked. The 21 was too sweet from the rum casks. I spent quite abit on the 19yr Age of Discovery as it was aged in bourbon barrels as well. liked it very much but the cost was steep. They released the 14 shortly after that but i never tried it.

Of those 3, I'd have to go with the 12. The 14, for me, gets a strange taste from the bourbon barrels. The 15 is just an odd flavor as well. That said, while I'd not purchase them again, I am enjoying them more than I did before taking a few months off from drinking. I suspect you'd like the 14 quite a bit.

However, to give you context, I am a big fan of the 21 and Balvenie Caribbean Cask, so my tastes tend towards the sweeter expressions.

I have a sample of the caribbean cask somewhere. I'll have to give it a shot.

I had bad experiences with Rum and the smell of it just turns my stomach to this day. For the most part i really enjoy unpeated, sherried scotches. I picked the glenfiddich 15 and AoD aged in bourbon barrels to aid my transition from bourbon to scotch. I'll have to revisit both as I"m not sure they are what I'd prefer any longer.
