The Tale of the Unbanded

In a galaxy far, far away (earth), in a time long, long ago (8 years) there lived a man named Hank. On a whim he decided to give cigars a try, not realizing the magnitude of his decision. He started out buying inexpensive cigars but quickly realized that you get what you pay for. As time went on, he started purchasing better cigars and it was good.

Hank met others that also enjoyed cigars and began to trade cigars. The relationships founded on this bond developed into quality friendships.

One day he did a trade with one of these friends and received two unbanded cigars. He questioned his friend as to what they were but unfortunately the friend was unsure as he had received them from another friend.

As Hank has limited times that he can enjoy a cigar, the unbanded cigars were forgot about in order to enjoy new and better cigars. Time went on and the unbanded cigars got buried deeper and deeper in the depths of Hank's humidor. One day (8 years later), Hank decided that he needed a bigger humidor and as he was transferring the cigars, he found those old unbanded cigars and realized that they have been sleeping for such a long time.

He tossed and turned in his bed trying to decide if it was worth trying one to see if it was any good, but he was undecided. They could be great or they could be a waste of his limited smoking time. Hank was in a pickle.

Moral of the story, Hank needs to suck it up and give them a try.

Does anyone else have a similar story?

Had almost the exact same thing happen to me one time. But instead of an unbanded cigar it involved a live-firing tennis ball gun and my poop-shoot.

Heh, no one ever said becoming a cyborg would be easy. They weren't lying!

I found an 8ball wrapped up in an old coat I hadn't worn in years. It was fine, give the cigars a try.

WOW! An 8 ball??? That's brave man. I mean, the tennis balls at least had some give, but an 8 ball! No forgiveness on that one I bet!

When I think unbanded, I always go to either a Cuban custom roll or aged Cuban from a 50 cabinet before they started banding 50 cabs. I'd give it a try. You can always pitch it.

Yes, more than once ... sometimes with good results, sometimes not ...

On the occasions where it's not, I've had no difficulty tossing the offending cigar ... I'm sure your experience will be similar ...

^Yep.

Unbanded could mean an incredible custom.....Cuban or otherwise...or could be a $2 turd from a crappy local....not hard to light it up and try it....if it is great...awesome!....if it sucks, pitch it

Based on the look of them I am guessing they are junk but at some point here I will try them. I totally forgot I had them. Actually thought I sent them to the troops about 5-6 years ago when I sent out like 300 cigars. Not sure why I kept them. Maybe in case they were good.

That is the plan. I think I will make one of them my next cigar. I have a bunch of random stuff that has been sitting in my humi for a long time. Maybe it is time to light them up.

I know I have a couple of Donkey Dropping (or something like that) in the humi but damn if I don't know which ones. Also, fiddler gave me a couple of unbanded when I met up with him and his wife. In my customary fashion I forgot what they were immediately. I know they are good special cigars but I keep forgetting to ask him what they are. Fiddler? I have kept them separated in a baggie so they won't get mixed in with my other unbanded.

I think I've only got one unbanded in my collection that I don't know what it is. Smells fantastic though, so I'm hoping eventually when I ash it it's good.

All the other unbanded are my yard gar Curly Heads.

I always smoke any cigar that was a gift. If it's great it deserves a thanks and if it's not it still deserves a thanks.

Better hope it's not the most fantastic cigar you ever had cuz you have no idea how to get more.

...they were disgusting. One of the worst tasting cigars I have ever tried. Ranks down there with Dark Sharks. Just plain bad. Tasted of cardboard and toilet paper.

Darn!

Hi
Though Dark Sharks are disgusting , we should be sensitive to Peckerhead. He has professed his love for the Sharks on many an occasion, lamenting the increased prices on those arse wiped "bueaties" over the last few months.
