Kidding aside I would have no problem with our kids learning songs from any of the major religions and performing in their places of worship. None at all. I am christian as are my kids at this point. I believe their faith to be strong and we can learn from other religions. It need not be my place of worship they are singing in for me to be outraged by this op, nor the opposite.

these bully tactics are very common nowadays and rarely, if ever, actually stand up in court

they prey on sissy school board members and administrators who just dont want the headache

Complainers are just that....COMPLAINERS( they must be so F'n miserable that they have a NEED to make others like them.

I as a parent had a problem with Christmas concerts our kids sang in No Longer were allowed to sing the same Classic Christmas songs we did growing up. I wonder if other countries wring themselves into pretzel shapes like we do trying tobe EVERYTHING to EVERYONE???

Didn't see that in the article. I just read that the Board pulled it and assumed that its prior approval included funding. I'm really a proponent of musical, arts, and cultural programs in our public schools and hated to see many of those programs defunded over the past few decades. That trend continues and I think our society suffers for it.

As for Mecca, it is a city in Saudi Arabia, and has many holy places, including mosques. There is a truly famous and holiest mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem, the Al Aqsa mosque.

couldn't comment about Mecca cuz I'm not allowed inside the city.

But is that Jerusalem mosque the one they built ON TOP of King Solomon's Temple?

and Dunstable is a very nice town, lots of money, horse country in fact. Sat next to a lovely couple from Dunstable on the plane Sunday.

Separation of Church and State has nothing to do with the States endorsement or lack thereof when it comes to Religion.

It has everything to do with law of the land being separate from the laws of religion. Grander to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, render to God what belongs to God. They are two completely different channels of delegated authority meant to coexist.

This situation is total BS. It really appears (and is not) about religion but a venue for the kids to sing in. The school leadership should grow a pair and tell the concerned individual to FO.

AL, I would take that position regardless of the skin color of the kids and where they are from.

Why do they have to go as a school group ? If the parents are paying for it and support it they can take their kids to sing songs about fairytales where ever .

Uh, it's a school choir.
The music teacher is a school employee.
I'd continue, but your head is likely spinning already.

You don't get it . Why does the school have to be involved ? The parents should be able to get their kids to wherever . It doesn't have to be associated with the school at all . Are they to dumb to make the arrangements wuthout help from public schools ? Tail even you could make a hotel reservation .

Is this a captain obvious reference?

Your argument is like saying: "why don't the kids just organize their own football team without the school?"
Or
Why don't the parents just teach the kids themselves? Even they could read a book.

That aside, the simple question is this:
Is the act of singing in an historical religious building against our laws of Church and State if done in a voluntary school group and financed personally?

My opinion is that it does not.

Some Aholes complain and our schools bow to them. I do not see a problem with separation of church and state here.

First amendment, "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. "

You still don't get it Brick wall Why does the governmental have to do everything for everyone ? Aren't you tired of this welfare ? Pay your own way .

I hate to see kids lose the educational opportunity to visit another culture, tour a historic building, and broaden their horizons .

I suppose they could form their own non school affiliated choir and go... but this isn't it so that's sort of irrelevant.

*shrug*

That aside I still find it silly.
