Wood Cigar Tray Example

Below is an example of an ashtray that my cousin made. This one has a gloss finish already, but not sure how that would react with cigars especially if they fall down into the dish or if some really hot ash sits on it for a while. This one is pretty small only 5x4". I have some ideas for him to make but don't want to really start if he can't find a suitable coating.

The couple ashtrays by TMCTLT I've seen had a glass panel.fitted in the bottom.

I think a wood ashtray needs to be a hard wood that won't get affected from heat. I used wax to finish my wineador drawer not sure how that would hold up with hot ash though
