Allegrini Palazzo della Torre 2011.

Ribs on the grill, dry rub Italian herbs.
Tomato, basil, fresh mozzarella with a dash of Balsamic vinegar.
Antipasto salad.

Nice meal, good wine pairing. The wine is heavy on the Corvina wine grape.

Probably the most boring great Bordeaux I have had was 1970 Petrus. The most amazing was 1960 Lafite Rothschild. But for me the great wine of the world is Red Burgundy.

2013 Mohua Pinot Noir (New Zealand ) need an hour to open so it could use about 2 years additional age. It was very good. Big, rich, reserved dark stone fruit, nice bramble nose, about 1 minute of finish. Also a velvety big texture.

Frank,
Tried thr Meomi Pinot today. Tasty, although it lacked the horse blanket aroma of a typical Cali coastal Pinot. Had a slight mineral note also which gave it an added dimension.

It did great! That particular Pinot Noir is one of my favorites. A Burgundy barnyard nose. Big and rich with a velvety texture. More angular than round. Different flavoirs in various parts of the mouth. A distinct eathyness. Reserved dark stone fruit. Minerality in the background. Hints of vannila and nutmeg. The nutmeg note makes me think the oak barrels are from th Jupille forrest in France. About 30 seconds of finish. A complex wine that needs contemplation. If you can find it you should. About $20

I like to cook, I always have. That grew into meals that pared well with wine. This all started about 25 years ago when a wine group I was in became a food and wine club. I like making regional meals from the region the wine is from. So I guess one of my hobbies is eating and drinking. Truthfully, they are usually easy to prepair. The above meal took about 30 minutes to make. Why not eat well? And drink well.

Ménage a Trois Midnight

Kind of muddled with loads of crushed berries but little structure almost no tannins and a slight metallics note. The label does not say what the meritage contains but it must have some Cab Frank or Pitite Syrah since it is very dark. About $10.

Sampled some beautiful Chiantis today

Look for Gabianno Vintage 2011.
Classico Reserva
Classico.

They also had a red blend that was nice.

They should be out soon.

All of my customers loved them.

Didn't say it was not a decent value. But for about the same price I can buy Gumdale Reserve Shiraz for example.

There are a few other red Zinfandel blends that are much nicer for the same general price. Cocobon and Apothic come to mind. I ran into a very good $5 wine the other day, Trader Joe's Sonoma coast Syrah.

Saint Francis makes some fine Zins. One of the best Zins I have ever had was their Pagani Vineyards. Bought every bottle I could find but sadly it's lone gone.

Supposedly Saint Francis still makes Pagani Ranch old vine Zinfandel, but I never see it. Ridge also makes Pagani Ranch old vine Zinfandel. I occasionally see that. I think Ridge owns the vineyard. They bought a number of old vine Zinfandel vineyards in the 70's shortly after Paul Draper took over.
