chuckler - How do you feel about beef or pork? My point is have you ever ran a saw through the neck of a live 2000lbs Black Angus. Have you ever listened to one bleed out in front of you? Also have you ever shot a pig on the head with a bolt gun when it was in a small pin where it couldn't move? My guess is the answer is no. I worked in a slaughter house while I was in high school, and let me tell you I would rather be shot by a hunter then go through a slaughter house. Maybe you should think about that before you eat your next steak dinner.

Usahog,

Are you suggesting that members of the armed forces should have unlimited hunting rights and should systematically kill all deer in the United States to protect the children and preserve free speech?

I hate being oppressed by deer.

Hunters are always blabbing about the thrill of the hunt, thrill for them not the animal they are stalking, and the great sport in the great outdoors.

Why not let them hunt each other, now that would be a thrill, put two of them in a 6 to 10 acre plot of land and give each like weapons (12 gauge, 30-06, a Randall Knife, and some rope. Then turn em into the field and say he who runs out of the boundries or is dragged out is the won who looses!

How many would enjoy the thrill of that hunt? On equal terms, same geography, same enviornment and how much nerve would depend on the individual.

It has been done in movies and TV...but just think of how much fun it would be to see how much nerve and sport the "hunters" would derive from being the "hunted" as well....lots of em would take up Checkers and mah jon pretty quickly!

Wow, I just read all the posts and a couple of things occurred to me. First, isn’t it great that the only minority that is ok to stereotype and look down on these days are rural Americans? Second, when I examine this debate closer, I just see a difference in worldview. No matter what side of the argument you’re on, it seems to me that you either believe that the world was created for you to do whatever you wish with it, or that, you evolved with everything else and have to take care of it as in the words of Ms. Garrison from South Park:

In the beginning we were all fish. Okay? Swimming around in the water. And then one day a couple of fish had a retard baby, and the retard baby was different, so it got to live. So Retard Fish goes on to make more retard babies, and then one day, a retard baby fish crawled out of the ocean with its [waves his left hand limply] mutant fish hands... and it had buttsex with a squirrel or something and made this. [points to a rodent] retard frog squirrel, and then that had a retard baby which was a... monkey fish-frog... And then this monkey fish-frog had buttsex with that monkey, and... that monkey had a mutant retard baby that screwed another monkey and... that made you! So there you go! You're the retarded offspring of five monkeys havin' buttsex with a fish-squirrel! Congratulations!

Charlie - that is why we have paintball and airsoft. It is against the law to kill people.

Most hunters have some sort of value system. Most of it is based on how we were raised. I catch and release bass but I eat crappie and catfish. I shoot deer, rabbits, birds, squirrels and coyotes but would not shoot a hawk or owl. Now if I was a farmer who had issue with predators killing my livestock I would have no qualms with killing them.

Some of you guys really need to get a grip - we are talking animals here not people.

AWESOME PIC MIKE!!!

Good for you you my friend.Ignore all of the **** that dont have anything positive to say.

We shoot "beautiful" animals because we can and its legal and its fun!!!

If it was legal to shoot certian birds of prey, I would shot them too..stuff them is some cool scene and put them in my house!!!

I like having their hides in my house, I like making things out of them, I like looking at them. I re live the moment every time i stroke my hand along their backs.

Hopefully the bleeding heart PETA loving liberals will never have their way and the tradition of hunting every animal that is legal to hunt will continue for many many years to come!!!

I am so far from a Peta bleeding heart liberal that it is not even funny, but I do value beautiful animals and creatures of nature......that Bobcat is not going to harm a farmer's livestock...lame argument....

If he does eat a chicken or two, so what? Now that you guys have murdered it, why not mount it in some attack pose, so you can justify the murder!

I agree with Bassdude and yes, I believe in hunting, but not something like that....hunt for food. Does bobcat or lynx taste like chicken? I doubt it!

Like I said, you brave outdoorsmen would piss in your pants if someone were sighting down on you with a 30-06 or an express rifle........try hunting each other then tell me about your sporting blood, not baiting traps to shoot something that beautiful.

re 22. your attitude sickens MY SOUL!!!! Man has been killing these animals before columbus landed on america. It "SICKENS MY SOUL" to see how pitiful people have become. Taking away and HATING things that have been going on in this world and others for CENTURIES. I struggle to understand where this came from. Where did this great wisdom come from that man should not kill animals. I just dont get it.

FIRST..we cant smoke anywhere....whats next in the name of progression?????
Will it be illegal to be fat, illegal to be ugly, will we all be foced to be vegitarians becuase some fn genius deems a COW as "BEAUTIFUL"???????

It sickens MY soul to see our cities grow larger and further away from where this country came from. It sicken my soul to see a father teach his children that hunting is BAD. That you should not kill these beautiful animals.
I'll tell you what, I would ANY DAY much rather have my child reading about Fred Bear, honing his hunting skills, learning about weather patterns affecting game movements, Studdying habbits of animals in nature, learning to accuratly shoot a fire arm, and.....planning a hunt following through and proudly displaying his kill in his house..ANY DAY ...
Before I would see him staring at the tv, sitting in his bedroom with a fn Ipod shoved in his ears, engrosed in fn play station, hanging out with gang bangers, and doing drugs.

Dont knock something you dont understand!!!

I am The Mrs. to the hillbilly post here:

Until you are put into a position where you need to decide wether to shoot one of God's beautiful creations I don't feel that you have the right to call someone the names that I have read here.

This animal was not stalked. To be honest the kids were in the backyard and this animal sat on the hay bails watching every move they made. All that we had to do was walk over to it and fire. The animal was no longer afraid of humans.

Regarding the chickens. We had taken the steps to build them a more secure area. Once a predator gets a taste it doesn't matter how secure an area you build.

I also do not believe in killing for sport. But, what was done in this situation was a necessary evil. I am an educated person and not some inbreed. I do save up for my childrens education. Before you start slamming someone for where they live you need to sit back and examin your own life. We all live in glass houses.

God did create all creatures great and small. So where do some of you get off thinking that you are holier than thou. It really hurts to know that there are people out there who can be so insecure with themselves that they have to slam others.

God bless you all.

It is amazing how one picture seems to give people the right to not only judge the guy's morals, but to question his gene pool too? WOW. Talk about judgemental people who need to take the plank out of their own eyes before they point out the spinter in someone elses.

Get your own lives in order before you try to tell someone else how to live. This is not your excuse to jump on the soap box and spread your personal morality around. Unless of course your goal is to turn people off and lose any chance of changing minds? If that is is, great job, mission accomplished....

Leave the guy alone.

Charlie is Caspar Milquetoast.

Can't have it both ways Chuck. You flamed the guy and agreed with the people bashing him. Now you agree with bassdude.

Take a f***ing stand and stick with it.

As I stated, I would not have shot the animal, but I am not going to insult and berate this guy because he did.

Having an email conversation with Mike reveals he's not a hillbilly. As a matter of fact, he's a nice guy.

While some, who disagree with hunting, want to berate him and call him names, I would ask you this:
what would you do if that cat was coming in your backyard and was no longer afraid of humans? Throw rocks? Call the SPCA or PETA and have them come out and place a "humane" trap? No matter where that cat was relocated to, it still would've been unafraid of humans, and would probably seek them out to get an easy meal.
So what would you do?
Wait for it to attack a neighbor? How about a Niece or Nephew that was visiting and didn't understand that the backyard is "off-limits"?

WTF, a guy prevents a cat from stalking his kids, and he's inbred?
Do you know if the cat was rabid?
Should you wait for it to attack to find out?
Once the animal no longer acts like a wild animal, and one of the sure signs of change is a predator that is no longer afraid of humans, its time to remove them from a situation that they can do harm in.

plinytheelder,

I think you are wasting your time. Always remember..

For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. Matthew 7:2

I am a mother of 3 natural born children and 3 stepchildren. If I walked out my door and seen this animal watching my children, it would be hanging on my wall the next day!!!! No second thoughts!!

The weak excuses some of you are giving in support of this out and out slaughter is amazing...

What if:

The perp spotted a Bald Eagle in his yard, watching his kids the way predatory animals happen to watch things......would it be ok to blow the Eagle away to "save the kids"? I think not...enjoy telling how you saved your kids and chickens from the vicious Wildcat to your friends......do you smoke cigars? If you do, I may send you some Puros Indios to smoke while viewing and bragging about the trophy!

This story has evolved from saving chicken to saving children.

In any case, wanna keep your kids safe from Bobcats- get rid of the chicken. Chicken call for the bobcat.

In this day and age it should be against the law to have ‘the internet’ and chicken----you must choose, g damn it!

If you had any respect for the nature, you would understand that this animal is only trying to survive. Especially if you bait it with chicken. Still, if you had to kill it, fine. You would not be parading it.!!

I had to shoot my dog, he got way out of hand. As he took his final breath I told him that he was a beautiful animal and I was sorry and gave him a proper burial. I would show pics of him hanging from his hind legs.

Jeff Foxworthy would say this……

If you post a picture of your Kill, before you post a picture of your family…..You might be a redneck.

The reason your dog got out of hand is your fault. Don't blame your dog for his behavior. As a dog owner and handler you set the tone. You should have drawn a line with your dog and made sure it didn't cross the line. I have a feeling that you just kept moving the line until the dog basically said screw you.

But you would be even sillier to think that I shot him because of obedience reasons.

I don't care what you say... A bobcat that is not afraid of humans is bad news. My dog was attacked by a bobcat and injured to the point that my dog died. IN A THE MIDDLE OF A SUBDIVISION in the late afternoon. Tell me that it couldn't do the same thing to a small child.
But aside from that, it was a pest, though it be a beautiful pest, a pest none the same. Do you people think that we shouldn't kill mice, termites or snakes? Same principle pests that destroy property. On second thought? If we are going to think obtusely, how about the poor chickens? How sporting or fair is it for the bobcat to kill a caged chicken?
This is simply a matter of protection of property, not hunting, or sport.

VFR,
One can only hope and pray that it becomes illegal to be fat in America. Until then I walk around and want to barf just looking at my fellow citizens. I sat in the food court at the mall the other day and was amazed! EVERY SINGLE person was wearing jeans and some sort of sweatshirt, and all but TWO people were seriously fat and ugly. Those two people by the way appeared to be asian. I was wearing jeans and a button down shirt with boots, and my friend was wearing a skirt, blouse and pumps. I guess women here in Illinois don't believe in looking nice to go outside anymore. Something to be said for women that give up looking presentable. Buncha hogs needed to be shot.

I went through the drive through (WTF???) at Starbucks and ordered the smallest coffee they had. It was the size of a super duper large in most countries. Impressive!

I've got a 300 win-mag in storage at my Dad's house that I'd love to walk into Wal-Mart with and start bagging trophy's. It'd be like fish in a barrel.

Sometimes I'd sit high in a tree and pop them as they walked out of Hardees or Taco Bell (have you ever noticed how "financially challenged" Americans are all fat and ALL eat pretty much exclusively on fast food?).

I did go on a nice 5 hour hike up into the woods that I grew up on. It felt good to be back in my hometown. I saw two deer and a few other small animals. That was fun.

The Mrs. and I recently drove out to Washington DC.. on our return trip we started counting the dead deer along the highways.. the one's we could see both day and night driving... we counted between 300-400 deer that had been hit by passing motorists.. most of these were in PA and OH states... I don't call that hunting.. that's called waist management... just imagine the cost of damages to these vehicles or worse... possible loss of human life.
