As a diehard to the grave LSU can I hate BAMA. It’s a requirement. It’s in the rules. Look it up.

That said, Saban is arguably the GOAT college football coach. Had he stayed at LSU we would certainly have more Championship trophies. But, I’m not mad he left. He did what he felt he had to do.

Now BAMA has the unenviable task of replacing him. BAMA won those titles because of him. Just like the did under the Bear. But coaches like that are once in a generation.

BAMA fans won’t see it that way though. They will expect to be a contender next year. They won’t accept anything short of a Conference Championship and another run at the National Championship. If the new head coach can’t produce a National Championship by the end of year 3 I doubt he’ll get a fourth opportunity.

On the other hand, expect him to get a fairly large yearly salary that’s guaranteed for at least 5 years. Don’t think the initial contract will be any longer. No way anyone takes that job without it. Because they know the likelihood of keeping it past the third year is slim they’ll want a nice exit parachute attached. It’s doubtful BAMA will offer anything any longer because they know what’s in store and they realize there’s a 98.2% they will have to get rid of the coach before the contract fully matures and will seek to limit their exposure to a large buyout.

As far as the coach who takes the job, he’s naive if he thinks he’ll last more than a few years. The Portal has virtually assured a team can’t expect to hold on to a dynasty anymore. This year’s champ could very well be next year’s chump. That scenario doesn’t bode well for a coach. Especially a BAMA coach.
