SO here is the correct answer the Illinois DMV wants to see.
If your traveling up hill and have to pull off and park, in which direction do you turn your front wheels?
My Answer: To the "Right" so if the parking brake fails and your vehicle rolls if will roll away from traffic not into it.
The Only question I failed, but still had to take the driving portion, so while I'm Ubering this DMV clerk around town.. Two hands on the Wheel in the at the 9 and Noon Position?? I was bee bopping with two fingers at the 6 O'Clock position and listening to her orders..
she had me pull to the side and physcally turn my wheels as to the test question above. I turned them to the Right and she failed me again stating the reason she had me do this was because it was the question I failed on the written.
I said Ok Look!! I was born in Peoria IL a River Town that had Hills and Curbs everywhere in the city, but surrounding small towns cannot afford Curbs all over but the same hills from the river erosions over the years are there... SO I learned many years ago, to always turn your wheels in the direction of Less Traffic IF your vehicles parking and Brakes fail it will roll away from Traffic in which case is to the Right. Nope she says, the front wheels to the Left so the tires will catch the Curb and stop it.. I said OK Again Small town or Country setting with a 6-8K poud Fed-Ex or Ups Truck dropping packages, Curb or NOT turning the wheels to the Left would put that vehicle in the middle of the road and into Traffic? HOW SO? she says. I said 8K pounds with a 20" tire and Gravity that truck is going to roll over that 6-8 inch curb... Oh Good Point she says... I said OK your familure with little towns in Illinoie right? YES lets take Harden Illinois the Illinois River runs right beside the town with hills and Chit, but yet no Curbs at all? I'f I parked a 200 LB go cart or Golf Cart on a hill and turned my wheels to the Left and system failure Occured... Where is my vehicle going to end up? at this point she's taking notes and going to address this to her supervisor... I Passed accept for reading glassses restriction!!! DOH...
