Sales dropped from $1 billion to
$750 million in the same time period as last yr.....

So What?

WTF?

Just because a sales drop of $250 million happens "once" is no reason to discontinue selling a very popular item....
Instead of losing $250 million...you'd rather loose $1 billion in sales?

WTF BUSINESS MODEL DECISION NONSENSE IS THAT ?

I am so freaking tired of millennials changing everything I can barely stand it..."just download the APP..."...
HEY, HOW BOUT' I JUST SMACK YOUR DUMBASS NOGGIN WITH A BASEBALL BAT U SMARTAZZ F**KHEAD..

HEY GUESS WHAT?? DEEEEKFACES...I ALREADY PAID FOR ALL THE MOVIES AND MUSIC , WHY SHOULD I RE-PAY $$THOUSANDS OF $$$'S TO DOWNLOAD STUFF I ALREADY OWN??

THEY SOUND LIKE FORD, CHEVY, DODGE LOSING MULTIPLE $$ BILLIONS THE LAST TWO YEARS BECAUSE THEY WONT STOP MAKING $85-125K
MASSIVE 4WD TRUCKS NOBODY WANTS OR CAN AFFORD TO BUY and banks won't write car loans for like they used too....

OH WELL, IT'S GOIN' down no matter what the public thinks...it will be forced down your throats...like it or not...

Jonsey, DVD and CDs are going away.
That technology has been dead for years now.
If you have a sizeable DVD collection, you might want to pick up a spare DVD player now.

Save the DVDs and CDs they might be worth something in 20 yrs.

I had a huge collection of vinyl about 20 yrs ago. Then I started doing MP3 so I had no use for the albums. These are going the way of the dinosaur, I thought. Put the entire collection on sale when we did a yard sale. $2 per album. Probably 150 to 200 albums. Entire collection or most of the best 60's, 70's, 80's bands like KISS, Beatles, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Van Halen, Pat Benatar, Ted Nugent, Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, Who, Skynard, Black Sabbath, Ozzie, Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Eagles, Doors, Velvet Underground, Queen, Kansas, Boston, bunch of big hair bands, some regional bands on the college bars, and so on and so on.

They weren't selling and I didn't want to lug them around anymore. After all, I have most of them on MP3 on my computer and my MP3 player. Some guy stopped over toward the end of day and said, I'll buy them all for $100. Sold!

Now my son is into vinyl and classic rock. We have a used music store in town and when I go in there it's like stepping back into the past. He literally has 10's of thousands of vinyl. All varieties of music taste. 33 RPM, 45 RPM, cassettes, 8-tracks. I'm find myself buying a bunch stuff that I sold for pennies decades ago for for of $10-30 each for my son.

Eh………..not sure CD or DVD will make a comeback.
First, they havent been around that long, as opposed to vinyl, which had a long shelf life.
I view the CD/DVD situation as similar to VHS tapes……………..dead tech that has been surpassed in quality, cost, and capacity.
Time will tell I suppose.

Once upon a time my vinyl collection musta be at least 3,000 to 3,500 albums but once I heard my first CD in 1983, I was convinced that vinyl was gonna be a thing of the past. So many advantages with CDs. No snap, crackle and pop. No rumble. Fantastic dynamic range. Way better signal-to-noise ratio. No sound degradation after multiple plays. No equipment maintenance (…turntable cartridge and needle…). I slowly but surely turned over my big 12”ers for the smaller 4-3/4” (approx.) compact discs.

At the time, the bulk of my record collection were demo records so I didn’t pay anything for them (…nice perk for the years I spent in the retail record biz…) and since vinyl was still a thing, could sell my records and get good money for them. Long post short, I don’t regret getting rid of most of my records. Moving boxes and boxes of albums got to be a small challenge as well as storing them. I don’t know how many CDs I have but well over 1,000. And if you include all the CDs I’ve burned, easily talkin’ 1,500 at the very least. Wouldn’t be surprised if the total is closer to 2,000.

I’ve thought long and hard about converting / ripping everything onto hard / flash drives but I’ve had a couple of failures that make me skittish about doing that and then getting rid of the hard copies. I’m NOT a fan of the mp3 format and 99.99% of my digital files are AIFF or WAV so that’s another “issue” I’d have to overcome or accept the added cost because of my reluctance to change. Obviously multiple back-ups is the answer. Or cloud storage. Decisions, decisions….

You better make a decision sooner than later.
The longer you wait, the more difficult the project will be, to the point where you will simply say…..fuq it.
I would rip it all to a HD, make a backup of the HD, AND keep the original disks.
CDs, by the way, also have a shelf life. Several factors influence this including how/where/when it was manufactured, storage conditions, etc

I had over 200 CD's I donated before I moved. Prolly should have kept them, but anything I want to hear is on my phone/iTunes. Bluetooth receiver in da garage with Bose 601's... my neighbors listen to awesome music... whether they like it or not.

Gave over 150 DVD's to my son... with a DVD player.

Yup, I’mma either gonna go big or stay home.

Presently I’mma making comp / mixed discs of artists / songs that I want to listen to every so often. The key will also be when I repaint the room that my stereo equipment is in and when I bring back all my CDs from storage.

I don't think they have any brick and mortar places anymore, at least in my area. I have bought a new in the box (but a couple years old) Dell laptop and a nice new in the box HP Chromebook from them on ebay none the less. Was just just checking ebay with the details of what I was looking for and was surprised that BestBuy popped up in the search. I too thought BestBuy was long gone but it looks like they are still out there.

In fact I'm typing on the Dell laptop that I bought from them on ebay. I wanted a laptop that could run some CAD software. Wanted a lot of RAM, a good processor, good graphics processing, at least 512 GB SSD storage, HDMI port to plug into an external monitor, and at least 2 USB ports. As for the Chomebook just wanted middle of the road or higher end Chromebook to play with or give to the kids if one of their school Chromebooks crap out. Wanted a Chromebook that has a HDMI port to plug into an external monitor and a couple USB ports. They had a bunch of new in the box HP Chromebooks (probably overstock Chomebooks from the COVID online school stuff a couple years back that they want to dump from inventory).

I landed both of them rather inexpensively on ebay from BestBuy. Both machines arrived as described and both meet my desired wants.
