I've got bourbon... all kinds of it. I have simple syrup and I have bitters. I have tequila (which a friend left here) and a few bottles of wine (which a wife's friend left here).

My wife does not drink, but as you all know I do... and I like beer and whiskey. I also enjoy making cocktails like an Old Fashioned and such.

What bottle of liquor, liquer or mixers is a must have for your bar... and bonus points if you tell me what drinks you make with it and share the recipe.

Tequila; everyday reposado like Herradura (priced right) or Don Julio (slightly pricier) which can be shot; and a bottle of premium Anejo, which should be sipped, like Forteleza, or the more expensive but smoother Don Julio 1942

Spiced Rum, for my wife, who enjoys an occasional rum and coke, she's not picky so I get the cheap but tasty Captain Morgan

Single malt scotch, for special occasions. like herfing, relaxing with friends and family while sipping and smoking a cigar : Arberlour A'bunadh, or less pricey Balvenie 12 year Doublewood

Prolly a story behind that aversion, I will not even smell red wine, no matter how good it may be. There are many varieties of gin, I've got a pretty good collection, including gins from the USA, Holland, Britain, Germany, France, Finland, and New Zealand.

Scotch made with smoked malt and domestic whiskeys made the same way, are absolutely gross. Y'all that love it are welcome to my share. I've breathed too much forest/brush fire smoke and smoke from "other" fires to want anything that smoky, except smoked meat/fish.

Well played, sir... well played.

No story as to why I don't like it... tried a gin martini and the medicine-y flavor just... no. Smells like a Christmas tree, freshly cut... and tastes like that smell, too.

Oh man, I am with you on the gin martini, I'm not a fan of Vermouth or a vodka martini either

Some gins do have a lot more juniper flavor up front, too much of anything is usually not that good.

1800 silver. Margarita
Several bourbons. I just don’t go off the deep end price wise
Belvedere vodka
Peach schnapps. Blend together w cranberry juice and the vodka . (Woo woo)

I keep red wine around too. I’m not fancy so that’s about all I need. I like having the vodka around for others. I’ll drink it but it’s not really my thing. I like bourbon n ginger ale

^flat file for depth guages helps after a few sharpening. I use a progressive guage to keep ‘em cutting straight

Yup, it's hard to get much done if you don't trim the rakers.

if you're referring to the peaty Islay varieties of single malt scotch, I agree...they're too smoky/inky for my palate also...

the Aberlour and the Balvenie use whiskey casks for aging, along with finishing in sherry casks...and I'm not certain whether the selected casks are charred ...however, my palate detects very little, if any, smokiness in those two scotches, there's a dry sweetness, mostly caramel, vanilla, honey and fruit that are prominent in those two faves...

I don't indulge very often anymore, but I still prefer those two on those rare occasions I have the time and inclination to pair a smoke with some Scotch...

as for Tequila, my SIL drinks just about any of them and he likes to shoot just about every week....I join in for 2-3 shots... we usually get something affordable

Given the opportunity, I'll give them a try.

They do sound good.

Picked up: Angostura and orange bitters (refills), Cointreau, blue curacao, grey goose, sweet and dry vermouth, kahlua, buttershots, and maraschino. Ooops... forgot Old Grandad 114.

Plus some smokes... Padron 3000 Maduro ($8.69 ea) 2000 Maduro ($7.89 ea) a 1964 Diplomatico Maduro ($16.99) and a My Father Le Bijou ($13.79). 1/2 the price I'd pay in CA... or less, even.
