oliva connecticut reserve

initially a nice woody smoke. started to burn fast and uneven and taste weird. wasnt too bad during the home stretch

overall rating: 4.7/10

im sure if the oliva spies on this forum saw this post and sent me some freebies i would change my rating

I probably haven’t had one in 7-8 years but vaguely remember them as being really mild without much taste. Mighta smoked two of the 5 I had and gave the rest away.

question for the pros: if i seek this same cigar will it also be rolled too tight like that? is that a preference to some people? or will it be normal?

Humidity might be too high. I find most cigars like to be at 65% humidity.

agree.
65 should work fine, I like lower but still think it unlikely the Fuente was rolled too tight.

Ben how’s your humidity in your storage and how long you letting these sit before you light up? Very possible they’re a touch damp The tough draw very well could be that

Pretty sure the Chateau is the top shelf cigar that the lower lever rollers work. I’ve had less issues with the shorter Chateau’s construction for whatever reason but I’ve stuck with maduro and sungrown.

It’s not unusual for b&m shops to have higher RH humidors so next time (…assuming there is a next time…) you buy something from there, let the cigars rest in your humidor / cooler for a couple or 3 weeks.

I'll throw in a recommendation for the Perfectdraw poker. A little spendy but works wonders on tight and plugged smokes

Sidenote: Perfecdraw tried to correct to Perfect raw. When did ZRX take over autocorrect?

I think what you should do is go buy a dozen or so cigars from that place you like with the high humidity and put them in a tupperware container with a 65% boveda pack then start smoking from those. The longer you let them sit the better.

You can make your own, with an old school coat hanger and a grinder.
No grinder? A file…

Then again extra large paper clips, straightened, with a bent “handle”, and the tip sharpened a bit, work great as well.

rocky patel sun grown maduro lancero
good, nice and smooth
flavor: 8.2/10
smell of the cigar before smoking it: 5.9/10
it burned with an acceptable amount of unevenness all throughout. i couldnt imagine trying to roll a super long skinny cigar like this (7.5"x38)
it had a decent draw: 7.8/10 would have liked a little more smoke but it was decent

overall rating: 7.3

I find your reviews shallow and pedantic.

They insist upon themselves.

I thought you were being the best normal your little heart could muster.

So, you were "acting" mentally ill?

EPIC FAIL X2

That RP starts nice then goes to 💩. Just like Rocky and anything he touches.

BTW which wrapper was the AF Chateau you smoked? Natural, Maduro or Sungrown? If you have the band I can tell from the color on it if you don’t have the wrapper. The reason I ask is the Maduro I would fry box a bit, the other two don’t matter as much.

Sungrown>Maduro>shade grown Connecticut btw.

That is a zero cost, no muss, no fuss idea that will last you as long as you have a plugged cigar...I've made several out of wire coat hangers: cut about 8" of straight wire from an elbow and about 6" of the wire that goes to the hook, giving you one piece of wire with two straight sides and a bend of about 30 degrees. Bend the top 6" part to create two finger holes. File the tip of the other longer part to create a sharp point, and then use the edge of the file to make a few nicks every inch or so from the tip. Voila!

As for the extra large paper clip, I keep one in my wallet and use it whenever I have a plugged cigar. Just straighten a couple of sides to make a 3.5" long punch, with the remaining bent part serving as a grip/handle...

Take a 5/0 or 6/0 long shank fish hook. Bend him straight. Works as well as perfect draw. I use the perfect draw mainly but I do have zillions of fish hooks in shed also.
