Approximately 18,000 cows were killed, and one person was critically injured, in an explosion at a dairy farm in the Texas Panhandle on Monday.

The Castro County Sheriff’s Office confirmed with Fox News Digital that the cows were in a holding area before being brought in for milking when the blast occurred at the Southfork Dairy Farm in Dimmitt.

Very few cows in the holding area survived, officials told local outlet KFDA.

They have some huge dairies up there so 18,000 doesn't surprise me at all. When I head up to Amarillo and the wind is out of the north...........you can smell that $$$ at least 100 miles before you get there.Wonder if they've figured out the cause???

I doubt much beef on the market comes from cows who have actually been used in the dairy industry. By law cows have to be slaughtered before a certain age to enter the human food chain. Not sure if cow that is old enough to be milked is young enough to fit the bill.

On the other hand, those cows born of dairy cattle with a set of nutz will never be milked, will have their nutz removed and will ride that magic bus to the slaughter house then ride away from there in a box in the back of a trailer pulled by yours truly.

I'm picturing Ant pulling a trailer with a harness around his waist as if he was a contestant in the "World's Strongest Man" TV show...

Milk cows can produce up to 10 years but usually don't make it past 5 or 6 before heading to slaughterhouses. And yes the beef from milk cows is some of the best beef you can get your hands on.I live right in the middle of the 6666,Pitchfork,Waggoner and Spike Box ranches.Beef from these ranches are readily available yet them old slaughtered milk cows shipped 100-150 miles up here are the premium beef. The marbling on these milk cows is like no other............wagyu phooey

When I was a kid we used to go to Stephenville once a year and pick up a half dozen overflow calves from a dairy farm.Back then they'd damn near give them away to keep from having to feed them. We'd feed them out 18-24 months, last 90-120 days nothing but grain, then slaughter them, entire family had freezers full of beef.
