We all know the risks.

A dear friend of mine that passes...... a few of you knew Matt..... said "Smoke your best, you are not promised tomorrow".

I use to gift so many of my very best cigars...... and I would look at my collection and smoke the cheapest trying to get my collection up a notch

As soon as I started smoking my BEST. I started loving our hobby 3 fold!!

My saying is...... "If 5... 10....12 years from now I get tongue, throat, mouth cancer..... I want it to be FROM THE BEST DAMN CIGARS ON THE PLANET".

I like you.

Food for thought. I kinda do the same thing as far as often smoking my lower quality stuff and saving the good ones.

One of my worries is that I will get so used to $10 and $15 smokes that my tastes will change, and I will no longer enjoy less expensive cigars. Right now, there are still $3 and $4 cigars that I like.

I smoke my junk and hand out my good stuff…. But you’ve got a fair point. My fear is the same as you lee. I enjoy some pretty inexpensive smokes. Hate to screw that up 😂.

I understand!

You'll still enjoy the sticks you like. I found recently I am turning toward Connecticut once again. That's where I started like 25 years ago. And I still buy my favorite 2 dollar sticks! The key is..... do you like them.... then buy them.

A buddy of mine told me a story....... his father was a big golfer. LOVED to golf. A few years ago his dad passed. They were going through his things as everyone has to do at some point. In his closet they found about 20 boxes with 3 sleaves each of PREMIUM golf balls. He would buy or be gifted top end golf balls and his dad was saving them for a "Special" day when he would play and enjoy those top end golf balls so he always played with his older ones. Now what..... Now someone else has those premium golf balls and enjoying them, because he never did.

I realized my awesome collection is just going to go to someone else to enjoy and smoke when I die. I paid and collected PREMIUM smokes...... that I was not enjoying..... saving them for a special time. And when I were to die.... someone else gets to smoke all that premium stuff. TWO things have happened...... going forward.

1) I smoke my BEST..... favorite sticks and take photos of course to remeber them. Instead of WAITING for a special event..... I MAKE SPECIAL EVENTS and smoke them.

2) I only buy the sticks I really love now and gifted the stuff I don't enjoy. SOME ONE will enjoy them. I buy singles at my B&M to try new stuff before I buy boxes. ONLY BUY what you find as TOP NOTCH.

Again..... if I am going to get mouth cancer 10 years from now.... it will be from THE BEST DAMN CIGARS ON THE PLANET!

DEFIANCE! ;)

I tend to forget this often and reach for my "everyday" smokes. I have "special occasion" smokes going back to the late 1990s and many more that were reasonable when purchased but now are ridiculously expensive. IE: Behikes etc

Time to pull out a few of those and celebrate the day we are given!

I have instructed my wife that when i die i want her to have an open humidor and open bar funeral instead of an open casket since i aint pretty enough to look at alive so no one wants to see me dead... Just put the coolers next to the casket (or urn) and let people have at it. now i need to start smoking all the good stuff so its just the every day stuff left on that day for all the attendees to pick from.

I pick mostly the best I have to take on vacations, where I have the time to sit and enjoy a smoke. At home I'm always working on something outside, so my "el Cheapo" cigars are the usual choice. In the last couple of years I've been trying to smoke some of the older goodies that may be beginning to lose their flavor. This year the last of the old Gurkha nublizers are a target for disposal by fire. I have had a problem with nubs as they don't fit well in the herfador boxes, and I"m not about to buy the new specially designed nub ones.

LOL! That’s a great line! Fo’ sure I fit that description too. Laugh

And love the idea of an open humidor and bar but I don’t think there’s a mortuary here that will allow that (…possibly against State laws…). Would probably hafta be done offsite after the services.

I don’t want my family to fret over my cigars so told my wife I was gonna label boxes / Tupperwares / coolers with who I wanted to give to but haven’t, yet, done that. I should get back on that horse again.

Nooo, never said I don’t have any. Shame on you

I just don’t purposely buy cigars blended with it. Not talking

I don’t normally re-gift so will, at some point in time, ash up all of my gifted smokes…or at least that’s my intent. RollEyes

I honestly don’t think I have any. Gonz

I never bought any (…or at least I don’t recall that lapse in judgment…) and the only one I can remember getting was a K. Hansotia branded cigar from Busa during an inventory thinning many moon ago. It was 12 cigars for $60 (…or thereabouts…) but the Hansotia had a Connie wrapper so I gave it to one of my nephews who, at that time, preferred mild to mild-med cigars.

But maybe you can hold out for my Neil Young collection? Both official and ROIO stuff.

for what it's worth, I have been smoking a few of my better cigars but I still go for the lower cost storage box for a cigar to smoke during my daily walk ...seems that walking outdoors isn't conducive to total enjoyment of a great cigar.

I am finding that I don't enjoy as many of the lower cost smokes as I did years ago...not sure if my palate changed or my perception/snobbish mind has. I've also discovered that quite a few of the mid-tier and some of the high cost cigars aren't much better than the $2-$5 cigars...

I may have to take a hiatus to re-boot the palate...seems Palama had a 2+ week break due to an illness, and really enjoyed his first smoke back...

I’ve mentioned at times especially in the blind taste challenge thingy. I think there’s some affordable cigars you could put an Ezra Zion band on and people would go crazy over them. I would t say it’s the norm by any means but I’ve been let down pretty hard by some 10$ plus cigars. I’ve got some that retail around 7$ I love. Some of it is in the mind when smoking

I like their smokes most of the time. I'm tired of their marketing. It's not possible to have the single best blend ever in the history of tobacco every. single. release.

But if I put a ribbon on an oliva Daytona and told some of those die hard ez folks it was the limited run they’d praise how great the cigar is.

(I like the Daytona more than I should) just an example

The Daytona is weird for me. Had a romusto in a sampler and it was wonderful. So, I got a box of the #4, and not a one of them was nearly as good. I don't know if it was size or age

Have you had the private keep lemon Corey? I been handing them out but haven’t tried them. I’m bad about that…

Sunover I like the romusto and the 6 46 is my go to on those.

Haven’t had the 43. Might be enough to screw the blend up Like some lanceros work and some kinda don’t. My goat like palate tells me so

Madison Square Garden? Flapper

While growing up, Aji-no-moto was a staple of our household. One of my Dad's comfort dishes was Hula Brand udon, canned sardines (in oil) and green onions. He always sprinkled in some Aji-no-moto and shoyu towards the end. I tried to re-create it without the Aji and it was rather flat. Next time I used some Aji and it made a difference. A little went a long way...at least taste-wise.

IDK about being healthier than the Energizer Bunny but I do try to watch what I eat and drink as well as get some exercise on a regular basis.

I bought a 5er from a small place but with the 20% discount and free shipping, paid $9.60 per. Smoked one after almost 2 months rest and thought it was quite a spice bomb. I'll try another when they hit the 6 months mark and see how they are.

For the most part I've enjoyed the regular production stuff from Warped and a few LE. Kyle seems to have toned down the release rate of his LEs but I wasn't ever "hooked" on his stuff until recently.

Viaje is a brand that, for some reason, I've just not come around to. I've been gifted some really good ones but also a bunch of okay, borderline, meh smokes. Most of the ones I've bought haven't lived up to their prices.

Oh well....

With less than two weeks left in the year but with the lingering, occasional cough, I’mma gonna have to dig super deep and pick out 4 smokes to end the year on a high note.
