The fantastic athlete that can run like a deer and throw the ball a country mile will ALWAYS fascinate GMs and coaches. Against lesser competition and early into their pro careers they look like the 2nd coming of Jesus but once there’s enough tape on them, their limitations become apparent. Lamar is turning out to be no exception. Plus, his style of play does seem to lend to injuries that have or will curtail some of the specialness.
While I don’t blame athletes for trying to get as much money as soon as they can, sometimes their expectations are beyond reason. But, it takes two to tango and if there’s an owner out there that’s willing to ante up (…Watson…), well, that’s on them but the fallout affects the rest of the league.
Fo’ sure if the Ravens pay Lamar what he’s demanding, the team will be salary strapped for years. I’m not sure he can win with lesser talent around him. Coupled with him aging and, potentially, more lower body injuries to rob him of his speed and elusiveness, the team will still be competitive and in the talk as a Super Bowl contender but not have enough to win it all.
