I am NOT the worlds biggest fan of Bruce Springsteen.
I certainly like much of his music. Especially his portfolio before Born in the USA.
But so much of his studio stuff is terrible after this point.

With that said, he is probably the best live performer in the history of Rock and Roll.

He makes even his crappy songs sound good. And his backing band is always top notch.

He's on the MTV Live channel right now and I thought I'd share.

funny story.....about 20 or so years ago i heard an ad on the radio that the boss was coming to the rochester war memorial for a concert. Never been into music like my wife...she kept up with all the decades of change. So, I asked her if she would like to see the boss, Frank Sinatra with me. I guess i became confused early in my life since my wife told me that I confused the chairman of the board with the boss and was a douche. Hey bartender, give me a vinegar and waterfog

so I go visit my buddy at U Miami during Spring break sophomore year, early 1972. He has a roomie from NJ, kid says we gotta listen to a cassette of a guy he knew from NJ that played lots of proms and local stuff, and he knew the main man, even played some music with him a few years earlier, says he will be the biggest...it was pre bruce Bruce, Spirits in the Night, Does This Bus Stop...etc., but rough sounding.

Back home two months later, record company picks Boston as a target market of acceptance and the kid gets booked to play 5 nights at Oliver's which may have been the Cask & Flagon at the time, or the other way around, on the corner behind Fenway Park, as a front running publicity tour before releasing Greetings From Asbury Park.

I convince two guys to go first night, bringing the crowd to 12, second night they convinced a few more...by the last night the place was packed, like 60 people! and The E Street Band blew the roof off that dirty old barroom each night. Some of the best stuff I ever saw/heard.

The last night they did Twist & Shout for their encore. Original band, Clarence on sax, David Sanchious (sp?) keyboards, Vinnie Mad Dog Lopez on drums...frickin' beyond belief seeing future music legends playing their hearts and brains out in a dingy bar on a week night...5 nights in a row!

a month later, Asbury Park hit the stores and it was on radio in Boston and local college stations right away. Boom.

The guy can write a helluva song. Especially in his younger days. "Incident on 57th St." is amazing or my personal favorite....Thunder Road.

The screen door slams, Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey, that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again, I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside, darling, you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking that maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright
Oh, and that's alright with me

That's pretty damn good.

I can. I don't give a $hit what his opinion on politics are. Any more than I care whatTed Nugent's opinions are. I'll still jam out to Stranglehold and Wang Dang Sweet Poontang

never heard of them, but I know I agree...but being here for many years, it's like Nugent is the king...even though I did love the Amboy Dukes original version of I Feel Free better than Cream's.

I think Nugent himself is a total jacka$$ but I like his music. From the Dukes up through the 80's or so. Got to see him live back in the old loin cloth days when he didn't spout all the political crap. Helluva show

I have my politics, they have theirs. Theirs doesn't interest me as much as their artistic talents do.

after liking the Smithereens, many moons ago a friend informed me that someone from the band was running as a Republican for some stoopid thing in Ohio I think.

That's the kind of news that I try to avoid but somehow finds me. It's very anguishing, I really do not want to know.

He's a grunting gorilla with no talent.

His band died with Clarence. The real jewel is little Steven. He KNOWS music.

Look if you like a concert with 4 hours of supposed music that's really 2...with a lot of talking and political bull $hit...go.

I'll NEVER ever pay for a ticket, a song or even waste my time going a show of his again.

A WHOLE LOT OF THAT GREAT LIVE SOUND
IS THE ONE AND ONLY....

NILS LOFGREN

one of his guitar players...
Since Day one of SPRINGSTEENS CAREER.
He is amazingly talented...

The GOOFY Soprano's head scarf guy is NO WHERE
NEAR NIL's ability, but he gets all the notoriety.

i usually ignore celebrities when they try to do anything other than entertain me

he is one of the few that is so in your face with his politics that i actually made a point to avoid any and all of his stuff

which sucks because some of his stuff is good

Not a big fan of his music - Liked Cheech's "Born in..." version better.
