I heard that UPS is really run by the FBI-SSG division and they are out to steal from you too by making you pay for everyone else's free shipping.

Teach them a lesson, order some dog food. And a couch. Maybe even a TV. And a box of 12" black ribbed nobblers. All with free shipping. Then return all of them as defective so free shipping twice. CHA-CHING! (except the nobblers, you should keep those)

I do a lot of UPS stuff..most think the cost is based on weight but they have a formula that is called "dimensional weight"

Suppose you have a package that weighs 2 pounds but is 36"x16"x14"...they calculate how much space it takes up and price the package by the dimensional weight that a typical package weighs at that size...say 7 lbs. You end up paying the 7 lb price rather than the 2 lb price.

Much cheaper to use usps packages.

Try U.S.P.S. flat rate boxes, no weight limit...if it fits, it ships: small (pistol will fit) is about $7, medium about $14 and large box is about $18.

You're choosing the free/lowest cost shipping option, right?

That's UPS "Mail Innovations" service. It's a notch below "UPS Ground". The service involves UPS picking up the package, processing it, transporting it a hub near the final destination, from there it is handed off to the USPS for final street delivery. It's a cost saving thing for the customer and UPS, while the USPS can get some needed extra revenue since they can deliver for less than UPS can. It's actually a good concept if you aren't in a rush and ship a lot of packages, as it's only available to high volume shippers, anything less would not be cost efficient.

Plus, it drives Mr. Jones batchit crazy, so win-win.

CBID packages shipped on Thursday to me are picked up by UPS and turned over to USPS and usually arrive here on Saturday along with the mail. Working out well so far.
