America wants to be Thumped down. We don't care about science, facts or anything that detracts from having a good job with benefits. We don't believe, or care, that our work can make life for our kids or our kids' kids miserable. We don't care that there are ways to create good jobs and make our country/world safer.

do you all work for companies that are cool with you updating the public on company dealings via your social media accounts? typical liberal fear mongering...

"USDA officials said that after the email was sent, acting USDA Deputy Secretary Michael L. Young sent out a three-page memo to USDA agency department heads and other key agency officials outlining the interim procedures staff should follow.

A copy of the interim procedures memo, dated Jan. 23 and seen by Reuters, shows many of the steps reflect either the same or similar measures taken by the previous administration. Reuters also saw a memo, dated Jan. 22, 2009, that was sent to agency officials by former Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

The 2017 memo, however, differs in two main areas.

It centralizes the agency’s media inquiries and social media presence through the Office of the Secretary. As part of that, the memo asks USDA agencies to “review their websites, blog posts and other social media and, consistent with direction you will receive from the Office of Communication, remove references to policy priorities and initiatives of the previous Administration.”

It also rescinds the ability of USDA agencies to close an office or notify local delegations of office closures."

I have no issue with freezing government social media. I'd have no issue if they were eliminated entirely. That's not even on my radar.

Unfortunately I'm not comfortable talking about what I see and my concerns at the moment (in here). I'll revisit it some day when things are more clear. I am disturbed by a couple things however.

As an unrelated side ... I watched the Obama admin manipulate the FOIA system to their benefit and found it disturbing. I also watched them manipulate congressional casework, reporting and oversight.... I tend to get uncomfortable when checks and balances are eroded or manipulated

Meh, what company doesn't require all outgoing information requests to be a single source or have a designated information officer?

Certain lawyers are always willing to take any sort of company communication as a contract. To wit, many years ago my employer supplied us with personalized note pads that had the company logo. One lawsuit later that claimed a note with the company logo was a contractural contract not just a note from an individual that was not authorized to make a contractural commitment. The company replaced all the notepads sans the logo.

Oh, as for that data, it will be around until they abolish the EPA, then it will be archived in the recycle bin. Frying pan

The problem is you're claiming that "america is a big ass company" which just doesn't have any basis in reality. Wasn't founded and has never been a company.

I always have been.

I may not support doing so illegally and through foreign governments but yes I find transparency in government to be something I value and something that eroded through the past couple Administrations. I'd like to end that pattern rather than expedite it. I would guess we both actually agree on that.

Just saw that Consumer Reports had a test of ground beef and found in tests of 458 pounds that there was bacteria in all cases that signified fecal contamination. A now a gag order on the FDA. How sick do you get under this dictator ?

chicken is to salmonella as beef is to e.coli O157:h7... there's e.coli in your ground beef, period... has been since the 80's, isn't going away any time soon...

USDA (FDA does do some food but not raw meat) agents and inspectors HAVE NEVER been able to tweet about their microbiological findings... ever... not now, not under Obama... nothing has changed in that respect...

stop listening to the liberal fear mongering... something bad will happen soon enough, I promise... but you gotta be patient... you can't go crying wolf every time you see puppy's tail...

+1
dude you really stole my fire with that one

why we think alphabet agencies need to tweet/facebook/etc their thoughts to us is beyond me. they work for a larger entity and they release their reports just like they have forever.

"The Trump administration is examining the website of the Environmental Protection Agency to determine which information will remain, underscoring concerns that climate change and other scientific data might be removed.

EPA employees have also been instructed not to release press releases, publish blog posts or post anything on social media. It's part of a crackdown by the new administration that seems to be especially felt at the EPA and the Interior Department, leaving some employees "terrified.""
-cnn

some are suggesting that they are no long allowed to "science" or science

i guess we shall see

imo there are many .gov agencies that are out of control but if someone if of the mindset that bigger alphabet agencies and more regulation is the answer then i could see how they would be "terrified" by these sort of things

oh how lucky we are to be "terrified" when our boss tells us not to post about work on social media
maybe i just dont scare easy but i have never been allowed to do that and i cant think of a time in my life where i was ever "terrified"

Think this was debunked yesterday in that nothing came from the WH to either agency on this. The directives came from within each agency.

A lot of tail chasing for nothing.

No evidence of gag order...maybe self censorship by managers of agencies mandated to protect and inform the public trying to please the new boss, who has said he doesn't believe the data/facts...not quite censorship, but on the slope...

ZRX is right, telling us about the real BIG news yesterday, involving statements made on social media by a SAC Secret Service Kelly O'Grady. She posted/tweeted statements about her "doubts that she could take a bullet for Thumpher" That's big.

Even the SS agents who didn't approve of, and had similar thoughts about Obama, were smarter than to publicly say stuff like that. Wonder why the pristine reputation of that agency has taken a hit since he became President? Remember the time when a bunch of the the elite team (counter-assault team) were found drunk in Amsterdam the night before a major Obama event? Or when no agent was watching a door that had a disabled alarm, when an intruder with a knife got into the WH? Result of O'Grady-like attitudes?
